I'm gonna make a cd for my parents of PJ covering some tunes they would know. So far I have:
Gimmie some truth
fortunate son
waiting on a friend
baba
RITFW
harvest moon
blue red grey
little wing
watchtower
you've got to hide your love away
forever young
the kids are alright
I am sure there are tons of songs I am missing. Any suggestions/help?
One thing I've learned about making mix CDs like this for non-die-hard PJ fans.... Make sure you go with soundboard recordings or studio material. Casual listeners won't listen through screaming audience recordings just to hear Eddie's voice.

true
he did a cool love-->building a fire with c average
you don't need to fill a full 80 minute disc either. If you don't have good versions cut it. I don't think forever young or waiting on a friend worked that well
I would stick in masters of war and the boys are back in town

Really? I fucking love Waiting on a Friend, and I really don't like the original.

yah I'm trying to use good quality songs. Great call on dock of the bay and everday people. I'm not really sure how I missed love reign over me. Thanks for the suggestions.

that version of 'waitiing on a friend' was pretty awful...if your folks are stones fans, i wouldn't put it on...
and 'the boys are back in town' collapses halfway thru...

Some very good points have been made by these posts. Go for a short cd of the absolutely strongest versions you can find in sbd quality. I suggest you go with these:
Fortunate Son
Hide Your Love Away (I am Sam studio version)
I Got You (Split Enz cover - 1995 australia version)
Baba
Watch out for The Kids are Alright unless you parents don't mind the word "fuck". RITW is not exactly "classic rock" considering Neil Young wrote the song in 1989. You parents probably never even heard it before.
Overall just be aware that your parents probably won't like it too much. Classic rock songs are just that; "Classics". It is pretty tough to do them better than the originals.
