Amy Jade Winehouse is an English jazz/soul singer and songwriter. Her debut album, Frank (released in 2003) was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and she won an Ivor Novello award in 2004 for her debut single "Stronger Than Me". In 2006, she released her second album, Back to Black. On 14th February 2007, she won her first Brit award for Best British Female.
I've been listening to Back to Black for a couple of weeks now. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes soul music. I decided to look into her after learning her song, "You Know I'm no Good," was sampled (well...pretty much "rapped over") on Ghostface's newest album, More Fish. I'm not sure if she composes her own music, but the arrangements are very cool. I haven't looked into too much R&B recently, so this is pretty new to me. I'll have to look into her first album.
Any other fans? Is there any other good stuff like this out there? Check it out, kids. Good music.
You heard the man...it's a good album. Even if you hate Rehab, I strongly suggest that fans of r&b/soul music give this album a chance, or at least listen to the song "You Know I'm No GOod." Good to see non-haters (and people who actually listened to the music) posting in this thread.
I'll look into Joss Stone when I get the chance.
