when LD came out a lot of people were bashing jeff and saying sweet lew sucked and how he shouldnt sing and all this other shit. (which, i'll admit, it wasn't the greatest thing i've ever heard, but it wasnt absolutely horrible either)
well, i'm listening to green river's rehab doll okay? and i swear to god, the low, low voice singing "take one down, pass it around, take one down, pass it around, take as many down with you as you can" has GOT TO BE jeff. (at least in my opinion).
now, this record was released in the mid eighties, right? so jeff probably hasnt sung that much since then. so, depending on when sweet lew was recorded, we're talking 10+ years without any real extended singing.
so what jeff sounded like was what anyone would sound like 10 years after not singing, ya know? if he would have had a lot more practice i'm sure he'd be a decent vocalist.
either that or it was mark arm the whole time which would totally kill this thread, lol.

I cringe everytime I hear him do the backup for Lowlight live. I think he has some good studio work though.
Took the words right outta my mouth. Got to hear Low Light in DC last May. First time ever and I absolutely love that song. One of the overlooked gems on Yield. That footage in SVT with that playing behind the interviews is really cool... but he pretty much butchered the backing vocals when I saw it. Bums me out cause its high up there with the best of their mellow stuff.
Let Matt handle Low Light and let Stone and Jeff handle Big Wave.

I really like Sweet Lew, but when it comes to Low Light, it can be hit or miss for me.
What I don't get is how he can sing upward into a microphone. It looks like it would feel weird.

Lemmy's been doing it for years. Along with JD and Charlie. It ain't done him any harm.

Yeah, i got nervous evertime he walked up to the mic this tour.
Matt is definately the better back up singer live (i do like Jeffs studio work), but why do singing drummers always look so cheesy??
Out of interest, who does the lions share of back up on Avocado?
matt, or just eddie doing his own backups/harmonies
