 Post subject: When I save a .jpg to the desktop from the internets ...

... why does it always save as a .bmp? There's no other options to save it in its original format, and I always have to reconvert it to .jpg before reusing.

Did you completely close and reopen IE after clearing the cache?

Yah. I actually restarted the computer as well. I think it's a problem with searching for images and saving them from Yahoo! and a few other websites; the images themselves are .jpg but I think some search engines might cache them as .bmp for some strange reason.
