I figure here is more appropriate than GD, considering I want real responses.

I'm playing this in my H. Business Economics class.

Basically, just give me tips on what to buy/sell/trade.

Right now, here's my portfolio:

YRC Worldwide
Honda Motor Company
Onyx Pharmaceuticals
Time Warner
Dow Chemical
Blackboard Inc.
Caterpillar Inc.
Toyota Motor Corp.
Boeing

I've been out of the game for a while...but.

I'd short sell Halliburton. It's way up. Reconstruction is slowing, they are losing contracts, and not rebidding to hold onto contracts either.

I'd think about short selling some of the security firms that are in Iraq as well at this point too.

I don't know what I would buy. But I know I wouldn't buy oil based on the premise that oil prices are going back up. THE BIGGEST energy firms are long term investments, not "stock market game" investments. If you're gonna invest in energy for a game, you'll make quicker gains picking the right regional energy provider.

How about Harris Tech? They've been eating up military communications contracts like it's going out of style and expanding quite a bit. From what I understand, they are getting more contracts in the future too.

The Marine Corps is trying to phase out ALL HUMMERS! They are replacing them with these bomb and mine immune monstrous trucks. Do some research and find out who is making these machines. The money is supposed to be appropriated very soon, and whatever stock that is will go up significantly on that contract.

I don't know why we couldn't play on an individual basis and use a designated dollar amount to buy fake stocks.

Is it weird that I am seriously considering joining the military yet have reservations about being employed by a defense contractor?

No. If you joined the military you'd be putting yourself in harm's way and most likely taking a paycut to do it.

If you were working for a defense contractor you'd be making big bucks as somone else put themselves in harm's way.
