Since february is a pretty BORING sport month. I figure I ask this NFL question. With today being the first day of the NFL combine. Everyone in the media is always 50/50 on combine workouts. Based on the fact that Mike Mamula was the best combine workout ever. What were Mamula's combine stats?

July is FAR more boring than February when it comes to sports. No football, basketball, or hockey.
I could care less about combine workouts--they are so overrated. What they should do instead at the combine is just play football. Put players in teams and have them scrimmage. Of course, this will never happen because agents are too afraid that their players will get injured.

no no, July is the vacation month, where we get to read the Blue Ribbon College Football annual and the ridiculous crap like Athelon and the Sporting News etc for the upcoming season.
combine stats for Mike Mamula.... I have no idea... sorry.
I know Ashley Ambrose beat up his wife while his brother held her down while she tried to call 911 making it the second person affiliated with my team to do some horrid thing in 2 days.... I know that.

I got Mike Mamula's autograph at a Modell's in Jersey.
man, that's gotta be worth...nothing
It's worth slightly less than the Rick Mirer Highland Mint Silver card I won in a raffle at a baseball card shop. At least I can melt the silver and make it into something useful like a spoon or something.
not sure if this was at the combine or not, but Jeff George had one of best workouts for a QB they had ever seen.

I have to think there have been more impressive combines than that. Matt Jones, Vernon Davis, Mario Williams, Adrian Peterson in a couple days..
a linebacker running the cone drill faster than every wide receiver is hard to beat
I only looked at Davis's to compare, and he ran two 4.40s, benched 33 reps, broad jumped 10-8 and ran the shuttle in 4.17. And he vertical jumped 42 inches. I don't know where you're getting the cone drill numbers for Mamula, but the .14 difference in the shuttle isn't big enough for Mamula to make up for the rest of Davis's dominance.

The cone drill numbers are in the article and you're comparing apples to oranges not apples to apples... for a linebacker to put up as many bench presses as the top rated lineman (Tony Bosseli), to run the cone drills faster than any wide reciever at the combine and having a 3ft.+ veritcal leap is pretty damn impressive.

LBs and TEs aren't apples and oranges. Both guys are essentially the same size. Mamula was an inch or two taller, but they weighed within a pound or two of one another at their respective combines. I'm not saying Mamula's performance doesn't remain impressive, and I'm not comparing him to others in his class. If his is the most impressive combine workout ever it would make sense it's more impressive than Davis's. It isn't. Davis was faster, stronger and more explosive. Mamula showed better agility. They were the same size. Their position doesn't matter, not only because they were the same size but because it was a physical workout, not a football game.
