This thread has been done many times. I do not care. I am doing it again. I'm not listing Grindhouse because it is too obvious. I'll try to avoid the super obvious stuff.
-Sunshine Director: Danny Boyle
Cast: Cillian Murphy, other people I don't know
Plot: A team of astronauts are sent to re-ignite the dying sun 50 years into the future.
Comments: It's Danny Boyle. Who cares what else? It'll be nice to have a good space sci-fi; haven't had one in a while.
-Synecdoche, New York Director: Charlie Kaufman (also writer, of course)
Cast: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, Tilda Swinton, Michelle Williams, Samantha Morton
Plot: A theater director (Hoffman) struggles with his work, and the women in his life, as he attempts to creating a life-size replica of New York inside a warehouse as part of his new play.
Comments: With Kaufman writing and Hoffman starring, this is a must-see. And it's Kaufman's first time directing, which should be interesting.
-There Will Be Blood Director: Paul Thomas Anderson
Cast: Daniel Day-Lewis, Paul Dano, Paul F. Tompkins, Ciaran Hinds
Plot: A story about family, greed, religion, and oil, centered around a turn-of-the-century Texas prospector (Daniel Day-Lewis) in the early days of the business.
Comments: I adore P.T. Anderson and I'm a big sucker for American epics. Can't wait for this one.
-The Darjeeling Limited Director: Wes Anderson
Cast: Natalie Portman, Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, Jason Schwartzman, Roman Coppola
Plot: The death of their father sends three brothers on a journey through India.
Comments: It's Wes Anderson! And seriously, look at that fucking cast.
-Pompeii Director: Roman Polanski
Cast: Not announced
Plot: Guess
Comments: It's Roman Polanski plus a $130 million budget. This is my single most-anticipated movie right now.
-The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford Director: Andrew Dominik
Cast: Brad Pitt, Zooey Deschanel, Casey Affleck, Sam Shephard, Sam Rockwell, Ted Levine
Plot: Robert Ford joins Jesse James's gang, only to become resentful of the legendary outlaw and hatch a plan to kill the fastest gun in the West.
Comments: A western starring Pitt, Affleck, and Rockwell? I'm in.
-Zodiac Director: David Fincher
Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, Anthony Edwards, Robert Downey Jr., Brian Cox, Chloe Sevigny, Elias Koteas
Plot: Based on the Robert Graysmith books about the real life notorious Zodiac, a serial killer who terrorized San Francisco with a string of seemingly random murders during the 1960s and 1970s.
Comments: It's Fincher, so I'll see it no matter what it is. The solid cast and serial killer plot only add to the sure-to-be goodness.
-Reign Over Me Director: Mike Binder
Cast: Adam Sandler, Don Cheadle, Jada Pinkett Smith, Liv Tyler, Ted Raimi
Plot: A man (Sandler) who lost his family in the September 11 attack on New York City runs into his old college roommate (Cheadle). Rekindling the friendship is the one thing that appears able to help the man recover from his grief.
Comments: Sandler in a serious role? Sold. And is that Ted Raimi I spy...?
-Ocean's Thirteen Director: Steven Soderbergh
Cast: George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Ellen Barkin, Al Pacino, Bernie Mac, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Elliot Gould, Don Cheadle, Andy Garcia, Carl Reiner, Eddie Izzard
Plot: The continuing criminal exploits of Danny Ocean and his crew of crooks.
Comments: I’m trusting Soderbergh to get things back on track after that last disaster. And now with Pacino in and Roberts and Zeta-Jones gone, the cast is better than ever.
-Eastern Promises Director: David Cronenberg
Cast: Viggo Mortensen, Naomi Watts, Vincent Cassel
Plot: A mysterious and ruthless man is tied to one of London's most notorious organized crime families. His carefully maintained existence is jarred when he crosses paths with an innocent midwife trying to right a wrong.
Comments: Pretty cryptic plot description. But it's Cronenberg and it sounds to be in a similar vein as A History of Violence, so I'm up for it.
-No Country For Old Men Director: Joel Coen, Ethan Coen
Cast: Josh Brolin, Tommy Lee Jones, Woody Harrelson, Stephen Root, James Brolin, Javier Bardem, Kelly Macdonald
Plot: Violence and mayhem ensue after a hunter stumbles upon some dead bodies, a stash of heroin and more than $2 million in cash near the Rio Grande.
Comments: As long as they don't go down the same road they went down with The Ladykillers, this should be a sure thing.
-The Inner Life of Martin Frost Director: Paul Auster
Cast: David Thewlis, Michael Imperioli
Plot: Not announced
Comments: Don't know the director, don't know the plot. What do I know? David Thewlis is playing the title role. Enough said.
-Mirrors Director: Alexandre Aja
Cast: Kiefer Sutherland
Plot: A mall security guard (Sutherland) becomes wrapped up in a mystery involving a particular department store's mirrors which seem to bring out the worst in people.
Comments: It's Aja, and it sounds murderous. That's enough for me.
-The Good Heart Director: Dagur Kari
Cast: Tom Waits, Ryan Gosling
Plot: A bartender takes a young homeless man under his wing.
Comments: TOM WAITS!
-Guerilla Director: Steven Soderbergh
Cast: Benicio Del-Toro, Franka Potente, Juila Ormond, Benjamin Bratt, Javier Bardem
Plot: In 1964, Argentine revolutionary Ernesto 'Che' Guevara (Benicio del Toro) travels to New York City to address the United Nations.
Comments: Soderbergh's at the helm and the plot sounds interesting.
-Fracture Director: Gregory Hoblit
Cast: Ryan Gosling, Anthony Hopkins, David Straitharin
Plot: An assistant DA (Gosling) is caught up in a game of cat-and-mouse with a man (Hopkins) who tried to murder his wife and is set free on a series of technicalities.
Comments: Hoblit worries me, but the cast is solid and the plot has potential.
-Mother of Tears Director: Dario Argento
Cast: Asia Argento, Udo Kier, Daria Nicolodi
Plot: Part three of the "Three Mothers" trilogy which takes place in Rome and has to do with Mater Lachrymarum (The Third Mother).
Comments: Argento isn't exactly a reliable director these days, but this is still the close to the Three Mothers Trilogy, and that can't be missed. Plus, the cast is good and the buzz has been positive.
-Love In The Time of Cholera Director: Mike Newell
Cast: Liev Schrieber, John Leguizamo, Benjamin Bratt, Javier Bardem, Hector Elizondo
Plot: A love triangle set in turn-of-the-century South America, where two lovers wait out careers, marriages, affairs and deaths until they can reunite.
Comments: Could very well be average, but I'm a sucker for epic-y movies like this. Plus, I like Schrieber.
-The Bucket List Director: Rob Reiner
Cast: Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman, Sean Hayes
Plot: Two terminally ill men escape from a cancer ward and head off on a road trip with a wish list of to-dos before they die.
Comments: Don't know about Reiner, but c'mon: Nicholson and Freeman in a buddy comedy? What a great pairing. And that plot is wrought with potential.
-I'm Not There Director: Todd Haynes
Cast: Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Heath Ledger, Adrien Brody, Julianne Moore, Michelle Williams, Richard Gere, Charlotte Gainsbourg, David Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Marcus Carl Franklin, Ben Whishaw
Plot: Ruminations on the life of Bob Dylan, where seven characters embody a different aspect of the musician's life and work.
Comments: Haynes is a solid director, and the idea is intriguing. Seven people playing Bob Dylan? One of which is a woman? One of which is a young black boy? An extra named "The Erotic Hitchhiker"? Huh.
-My Blueberry Nights Director: Kar Wai Wong
Cast: Jude Law, Norah Jones, David Straithairn, Tim Roth, Natalie Portman, Rachel Weisz, Ed Harris
Plot: A young woman (Jones) takes a soul-searching journey across America to resolve her questions about love while encountering a series of offbeat characters along the way.
Comments: The cast seems kind of bizarre, but I like the title, the plot has potential, and Wong is a good director.

Wait, there making a movie based on a Gabriel Garcia Marquez novella? That will either be amazing or horrible and why isn't Kaufman directing that?[/i]

Hadn't heard about "There Will Be Blood", sounds excellent. And you're putting Reign Over Me on there? I hadn't heard much about it until recently. I'm intrigued but I don't know that it's in the must see category for me yet. Sunshine and Zodiac are must see's for me. You're forgetting Hatchet also.
This is pretty much what I tried to do with my last thread, but that's a much better title. And I promise, in 7 weeks I won't put Grindhouse on these lists anymore, but there's no way I'm not listing it now. Number one, with a bullet from a girl with a machine gun for a leg.

Be Kind, Rewind Director: Michel Gondry
Cast: Jack Black, Mos Def, Mia Farrow, Danny Glover
Plot: A man (Black) whose brain becomes magnetized unintentionally destroys every tape in his friend's video store. In order to satisfy the store's most loyal renter, an aging woman with signs of dementia, the two men set out to remake the lost films, which include Back to the Future, The Lion King, and Robocop.
Comments: This has the potential to be a really fun movie.
i've got my fingers crossed for no country for old men. the casting is a bit of a surprise as there don't appear to be any Coens regulars - which they've kind of been getting away from anyway, it would seem.
I haven't seen the Ladykillers yet but I've heard meh things and I wasn't particularly crazy about Intolerable Cruelty. The nine other movies they've made are all pretty much among my favorites to some degree, so I hope they get "on track" with this one.

Forgot about this one. I'm liking the cast.
Thanks for adding in the same format, by the way.
This, along with the Dark Knight, and Kaufman's new one are the ones I'm looking most forward to over the next year or two.

samuel l fucking jackson is in it, plus apparently christina ricci is topless a lot and has "convulsing orgasms" and is pretty much a nympho.
i dunno about chaining her down to get her to not want to fuck a lot but...whatever. i'll see it.
That one seemed too obvious.
So this is unobvious films to look forward to?

alright, i gotcha...although honestly, i would've put ocean's thirteen in with the obvious ones too (even though a lot of people didn't care for ocean's twelve)

Look, don't question my logic, okay?
Alright. Because by my logic Zodiac and Sunshine are major fucking no brainers as well.
