First of all I have not seen either movie yet, the prestige will be the first one I see because its directed by Christopher Nolan and has Christian Bale and an amazing cast. And thats the one i rented today. On the other hand the Illusionist had Edward norton And Paul Giomatti. Both movies I have heard great things about. But i do not understand why two movies with such strong similararities are released at the same time. Are they the same premise or have I just not read into enough. Because although they bothe have my favorite actors they look like the same damn movie released at the same damn time. What gives here? And which is better?

Just a coincidence in my opinion. Did you like the Prestige? I think I'm gonna rent that one.

The stories are very, very different. The Prestige is about two magicians competing with each other, The Illusionist is basically a love story with a magical element. The only similarity is that they are both period pieces with magicians in them...

...and The Prestige is a better movie :D

the only thing they have in common is the magician thing. the actual plot of the movies is completely different. i wasn't expecting much out of the illusionist but it was actually good. prestige is definitely the better of the two movies though.

Two very different movies.

The Prestige was probably my favorite film of the year, so definetly check it out.

The Illusionist is good, but also a bit of a mess. I think it is the best performance Giamatti has ever done, and is worth seeing.

just rented 'the prestige'
...really liked it a lot.
the only problem i had, was with the disc itself.
i had the volume cranked on my t.v. , and i had to rewind about 10 parts of the movie to hear it right.
any one else notice this, or did i have a crappy copy ?
really good show though.

The Prestige is probably the most mindbending movie I've ever seen. I definitely give it the edge over The Illusionist.

The Prestige not only has a great plot... but also a strong cast.. (David Bowie is in it)... I thoroughly enjoyed this film.. from beginning to end.. different twists & turns...

I would rate it **** stars...

I liked both, but I would give The Prestige the edge.
