If he doesnt go pro I think it is a mistake. He has already done everything in college and I thought college football players gole was to go pro not win a bunch of college awards. This is just my opinion...

Yeah I think he will go. Like you said, he has already won everything that most college players strive for. He could be the number 1 overall pick, and should be collecting his millions next year.

Heisman winner Leinart staying at USC
By JOHN NADEL, AP Sports Writer January 14, 2005 LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart will be back for his senior season at Southern California and try to lead the Trojans to an unprecedented third straight national championship.
The USC quarterback announced his decision Friday, opting to complete his eligibility rather than enter the NFL draft, where he figured to be one of the top selections and become an instant millionaire.
``I realized the opportunity right now to support my family by going to the NFL early, but to me I think college football and this whole atmosphere here and being with my fans and my teammates ... is ultimately more satisfying and will make me happier than any amount of money could make someone happy,'' he said.

Leinart is being interviewed on Sportscenter right now. Zzzzzzzzzzzz. This guy is so boring, I don't know how this interview has lasted longer than 5 minutes.

good for him. sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders.
I've heard so damn many people complain about him staying...they say he's accomplished everything he could in college, has nothing else to play for, etc. These are the same people that complain about players not caring about college and not having any integrity. But when a player finally comes along and decides to stay, suddenly it's a stupid decision. What a bunch of dicks.
I'm impressed by his decision...it's not one I think I could've made.

Im just not a big fan of college sports. I support people like LeBron James and Jermaine O'Neal. They knew they wanted to become pro athletes so they skipped college and got to the point. I just wonder why any college athlete whould pass up the pros.

i dont understand his decision at all, i do appreciate when players stay in school and a lot of players leave when they arent ready, but at the same time, when a player is going to be the top pick, has won individiual and team awards, not to mention he graduates this may, so whats his purpose of going back to school? i suppose he enjoys the college life which is great, but cant say i understand this one.[/img]

wow, I'm shocked! I don't understand it at all but good for him anyway. A 3rd championship in a row by the same QB has never happened. He'll go down as the best qb in college history if they win another title(and i don't see why they wouldn't) and that is qyuite the accomplishment.

i thought about that too, maybe he wants his place in college football history, and obviously i dont know if thats the case, but thats a bit of an egomaniac if that is the case. it also seems that he might be nervous of going pro or something, i cant really figure it out, especially since he will get his degree this semester, so it doesnt have anything to do with academics. good for him for not just running for the money, but i cant say its not a bit confusing.

THREE things could go wrong for Leinhart next year:
1.) Injury
2.) Not winning another national championship - very likely as they had a few close calls this year (Oregon State anyone???) and they will be marked men
3.) No repeat Heisman - Leinhart was not even the most valuable member of HIS OWN TEAM (Reggie Bush got the team MVP). I think Bush will win it next year if he performs in a similar fashion and there is also a good chance for A. Peterson or a couple of guys from Michigan getting that trophy as well.
I'm glad he likes his decision and that is fine, but lets not jump to conclusions saying that he is a lock for winning another title or the heisman again.
Because he is not.
