I was thinking about this tonight as I was listening to some audio clips on the radio of Ed inducting REM. Well for one, I don't know if there's some kind of "rule" on time, because obviously it's not like sports where it's a certain after you retire. Does anyone know, do they have a specific "eligibility time"?

But who would give the speech? Would it be one of the people they've looked up to, like Neil Young or Pete Townsend? Or someone that's considered them a major influence? Like maybe Corin from Sleater-Kinney? I don't know...

Also for those interested, my local rock station in the Philly area (93.3 WMMR) tomorrow (3/14) at 12noon will have the audio of an interview that was done with Roger Daltrey, and supposedly he talks at great length about his relationship with Pearl Jam. But don't worry if you can't listen at that time or even if you're not local to the area, as it'll later be available via podcast download at WMMR.com. Goddamn I love the way the internet's changed how we do these sorta things 8)

I'm pretty sure it's 25 years after the 1st record release...not sure. I'm pretty sure it's 25 years roughly from the start of the band

pretty sure eddie is gonna induct himself and the band. then he is going to do his own backup vocals on worldwide suicide.

Well, and does this make 3 total inductions that Ed's done now? Neil, The Ramones and REM? Am I forgetting anyone else?

Thanks for letting us know about the Roger interview.

Usually a contemporary or someone who was influenced by the band is who inducts the band it seems.

Could be S-K.

It would more likely be Chris Cornell or Michael Stipe I suppose.

I don't know what/if Neil played on his own, but I definitely recall the big group jam was "Fuckin Up".

Also I should apologize for asking the question of how many total bands Ed has inducted, that really more belongs in the already existing "Ed inducts REM" thread, I wouldn't want them to weave too closely together and have this wind up acting as little more than a duplicate.

John Mayer is a big PJ geek, so maybe he'll induct them.

I'd like to see Michael Stipe do it.

i'd be disappointed if it was Cornell. I'd love to see Neil, but its hard for me to believe committee would select a predecessor to induct a band, instead of a peer or influenced musician.
