Wow, I have to say I'm surprised you picked Immortality from Sendai over Nagoya.

Generally, I'm not overly keen on the extended versions. 3 week versions of RVM, Porch etc send me to snoozing as I find them to be largely tuneless for the most part.

Off the top of my head, Immortality from Nagoya slipped into that category for me. The intro/improv before was about 5 minutes, song itself about 8 minutes? Just too meandering for me.

Plus Sendai has a pretty kick ass ending

I think the 2003 Australia tour is the band at their worst under the current lineup. I always thought those shows sucked. But I love the Japan tour so this is an interesting compilation.

Despite not liking the aussie gigs overall, I think the Cropduster from 2/14/03 is quite good. I was disappointed not to see it on your list.

A mix that doesnt open with Release, nice. I forgot how many good songs were played one that pacific leg, especially the shows in Japan. Just scroll down to the write ups on TFT.

I love the guiars on those Japanese boots. The band was obiously reserved and that made for a interesting, intimate atmosphere. And that makes for an interesting listen. Since that 2006 gloss is gone. Its intimate, you can hear the band talking talking to each other between songs. The vocals were fragil but raw. I think Release on Habit's was from Toyko. Lyrically the tour was a complete mess. Boom wasn't overbearing snd Ed's japanese is kinda funny. I also liked that my discs are silver that came with great artwork.

The band needed an entire leg to warm up to as to playing two gigs in BC before heading off to Europe in 2000.

But, I've only listened to Osaka,Tokyo and parts of Nagoya. The band needed an entire leg this time to warm up to as opposed to playing two gigs in BC before heading off to Europe in 2000. I traded someone here for Nagoya a few years ago. Of course I really liked the improv before immortality and I wanted to hear the entire show. It sucked, I only got through the first disc due partly to the fact that ed was the worst I've ever heard.

So, Im I the only one thinks this will be better than 10 discs of 2006?

Mike plays a few bars of 'Jumping Jack Flash,' providing time for Jeff and Stone to get back to their regular spots and guitars, leading to 'Alive.

agreed--that version of immortality never did all that much for me

I could use a youkan invite if you have one :)

I think they were certainly more rusty at the start of 03 compared to 06. That said, I still enjoyed the leg as a whole.

I prefer the sound quality on the 03s - acoustic guitar really pings to my ears. Bushleaguer from Sendai is a good example. In fact, the Japanese shows in general sound really nice - most likely a venue thing.

I try and get as much variety, song selection wise, as I can across my comps. No Cropduster really stood out for me this time. I'll try and get it on there for either leg 2 or 3, but to be honest I'm not a huge fan of it.

Release actually works really nicely as the show closer; been wanting to place it somewhere other than show/encore opener for a while.

You're right about the intimacy aspect. There's a really funny bit before I Got Shit, where Ed goes into the whole 'I think you got shit seats' & 'I got a shit job' thing, and you can hear Stone laughing in the background.

Quick question for the file format experts please.

The 05 shows were mp3s at 192kpbs. When editing them I converted them to wav files and then saved them as FLAC, so as not to lose any quality.

What would be the best format to upload them in? Don't want to make the download unnessarily large with the FLACs, if I can convert them back to mp3s and not lose any quality.

they will never have the quality of flac files, so you might as well use a good encoder and convert them back to mp3s

Thanks for replying.

I wanted to double check, cos I thought that quality was lost when re-encoding back to mp3, which is the last thing I want.

It is, I'd recommend definitely leaving them as FLAC. You'll lose tons of data from the compression that would occur by re-encoding back to MP3, in effect transcoding the original files which have already been converted once.

They'll absolutely sound worse, no doubt about it.

Among others, Given To Fly from Adelaide is really nice. Not rushed.
And Indifference from Yokahama is so good.
Well done (as always).
