Okay this is a bit immature I will admit. I got into an argument with my boss at my "second job for gas money." It started out calm but the more I think about it it pisses me off. He was talkin about Nickelback and I suggested he listen to a little PJ an he started trashin them, saying they suck compared to Nickelback hahaha. How in the world is he gonna do that. Anyway, anybody have any solid facts or ideas that I can shut his dumbass up with?

Has anyone else noticed that there are a lot of people on this board with a "Nickleback complex"? Just search PJ Chat for "Nickleback" and you'll see what I mean. They're just another band, who cares who they sound like/try to sound like? And I so agree with tryinmorning's comment: music should be discussed on the interwebs only.

hey...stop. He needs some advise here. I know what he's going through. It's easy to say they're just another band and blah blah interweb... But when 8am rolls around and larry comes walking into the office and pops Nickelback into the cd player, all I can think about is how little the interweb helps me at that point.

I'll never understand the need that some people have to spread their musical tastes to everyone. Is it really going to make any difference in your life if your boss, or anyone for that matter, decides to listen to Nickelback instead of Pearl Jam? I mean sure, if I'm in the car with someone I'll play some of my favorite music, but I'm not going out of my way to try to influence someone and I'm sure as hell not going to force it upon someone who already has shown a dislike for it. The only part of the original post I agree with is the when he admits he is being immature. Anyone who gets worked up over this needs to reevaluate their shit. [/rant]

I wasn't really bashing this one guy, just pointing out a trend on the board. I didn't think I'd need to defend myself on that point.
But I'll agree with tryinmorning's second post too and mesh it with his first and give my own observations to answer the original poster's question. There's plenty of reasons you could give for why Pearl Jam is better than Nickleback. You could talk about how they've been influential, about how their sound and style developed and borrowed from other musicians and musical genres instead of just ripping something off, you could go the sales route and point out how many records Pearl Jam has sold, or how many concerts they sell out.
But like tryinmorning said, if this guy's mind is made up, is it really going to be changed? And just out of curiosity, I'm asking with all due respect, why do you care so much? Discussing music is awesome; I just don't get people who want to argue about it to the point of getting angry.
