I'm giving an honest attempt at quitting smoking... It's not the first time I "quit" but so far I'm doing better than I have done everytime... I've had two today, and one of those was the after dinner smoke, which is probably my favorite one of the day. I feel bad for having two cigarettes, but I am proud of myself, because usually by this point of the day when I've tried to quit in the past, my attitude was "fuck it" and I end up smoking like half a pack in two hours or something, but all of my friends that smoke told me that they aren't going to bum me cigarettes... so that'll be good. I'm confident I will actually do it this time. Maybe not cold turkey, but I'm done buying cigarettes, and since I'm quitting smoking, I'm also holding off on the drinking for a while. this is going to suck, but oh well.

My girl and I are actually thinking of going to a hypnotist. A couple of the guys I work with have done this and I am talking guys who were two pack a day smokers, now 'they don't smoke'. It is weird because you ask them about if they ever have cravings etc and they always come back with a robotic 'I don't smoke'. Weird but I want a part of it plus they charge $100 per person or $50 each for a couple.

that's what I'm thinking. everytime before when I tried quitting, the drinking kinda ruined it. I guess if I'm really serious about quitting I'll have to stop drinking, at least for a while.

I used to smoke normally on and off for maybe a couple weeks at a time. Ever since I took in depth biology courses about the respiration system, smoking scares the fuck out of me.

Everyone knows smoking is bad, but if they only really knew about the physiology behind it...

I don't smoke (I used to), but I'm really curious about this. Can you give us the Cliff Notes version?

Ease yourself off, and you can really cut back. Don't put yourself in situations where you might be tempted to smoke or around people who smoke. The best times to try quitting are when you are either on vacaction, at a place where you cannot smoke at all for a long period of time, or are VERY sick. It is definitely doable.

Sadly, I will admit that once you are hooked, you are hooked for life. Despite cutting back, I still need one every now and then. I just find the cravings are less severe. Try bumming them for a while.

today is a lot rougher than yesterday. I'm coughing worse than when I was at my worst, which was about a pack and a half a day, and my friend told me I was really jittery.

After meal smokes are by far and away the best cigarettes, they go down really smooth and they taste great.

Sorry, I know I'm not helping.

I've also found that when you've cut back, there are times or moments when stress hits and I'm desperately in need of a drag. If I can resist it for more than five minutes, I'm usually okay for a little while longer.

Substitute smoking for something else, like a good cardiovascular exercise routine.

How I'm doing it is not buying anymore cigarettes, and if the cravings get to where they dont go away after a few hours, even if I do something constructive, I will bum a cigarette from one of my friends, but I'm not going to smoke more than two a day no matter how bad it gets. I would just buy a pack and only smoke when that happens, but I've tried that, and it didnt work. I hate bumming cigarettes because I feel like an ass, so it kinda helps me not smoke even when the cravings are bad.

Yesterday when I only smoked two I smoked one at about 1PM, and was good to go until after dinner, which is my favorite cigarette of the day. After that one, I lasted for the rest of the night, and only had two really bad cravings. One was because I played an open mic and afterwards I wanted a cigarette, and the other one was one before I went to bed. I held off from both though, even though I went outside, and someone offered me a cigarette. I turned it down, and I am really proud of myself for that. I think I mgiht actually succeed this time.
