It's supposed to be big, everybody thinks that Bil Berry will reunite with REM once again, what else can be that big ;)

Dear Fan Club Members,

Please stay tuned to your email for a very special announcement from R.E.M. HQ around this same time tomorrow.

You are probably wondering what the surprise is: well, all we can say right now is: stay tuned tomorrow and you will find out at the same time as your fellow fan club members. Some of you will be particularly happy.

SO...PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAIL TOMORROW!

!!!!!!

i used to be in their fan club. half regretting not renewing now.

gotta be bill or new album and/or tour details. that or the absolute WORST way of announcing a band break up ;) :(

i hope it's "bill is rejoining the band and will be working on the soon to be announced new album and joining the band for their upcoming world tour"

if this were ten club, it would be something lame like a new t shirt design.

that's not funny! http://forums.theskyiscrape.com/vie ... hp?t=62229

maybe it's something only moderately interesting like a solo album from michael or peter or something. i'd buy a buck solo record in an instant; stipe, eh, probably not.

I read somewhere that Bill didn't hang around after the RnR HoF induction ceremony too long because according to Michael he was "anxious to get back to the farm" or something along those lines. Don't get me wrong, I think it would be absolutely awesome if he joined back up. From everything I've read in interviews with the band though, it seems like he's pretty content growing peanuts, or whatever it is he does on his farm.

My fingers are crossed that he's coming back

I'd be happy if he just did a record with them and stayed home for the tour.

Me too--the tour drummers they have are competenet but they need him in the studio

Ive never actually joined their fanclub. Strange.

i'd heard they had almost a record worth of stuff recorded with him this past winter, so that's my bet.

record w/ Bill, tour w/ someone else, maybe a few festivals w/ Bill

Do people honestly believe that recording new material with Bill Berry will somehow elevate the music or be a return to form of REM? I'm not sure the lack of Bill Berry is what made the last 3 albums that mediocre (or in the last album's case, downright bad).

As a big REM fan, I hope I'm wrong. But somehow I can't escape the notion that the band is on its last leg is hoping for anything to resurrect it.

i'll take a guess and say that they'll announce reuniting with the drummer, the release of an upcoming album, and that a tour is on the way.

Well the thing is, they've admitted that they became very lost musically once he left, and they didn't know what direction they should pursue. I think I read somewhere that Michael said that they tried to make a great rock album, and once they did with New Adventures, Bill left. So it sounds like they wanted to make more albums in that vein, but him leaving ruined those plans.

Seriously, I really am hoping that Bill is returning, since he was an integral part of their sound imo. But if what stevep522 is true, I'd rather he stay on the farm if that's where he's happy. Plus I don't think a less-than-enthused Bill will help make this album better, if that's the case.

Here's the thing: they don't have to make a "rock album" to make a good album. We all saw that with Automatic For The People. So that's why I'm not sure how much of an influence Bill Berry would have on a "good album" (if they ever make one again).
