Would anyone be willing to give us a rundown of the genre? Who are the big names (besides NIN), classic albums, a little bit of history, etc. I really like some of the music I listen to with industrial elements in it, so I'd be interested in checking out some real industrial.

Thanks....................................................

Not really my thing but isn't KMFDM considered industrial?

I believe that Godflesh (the guy from Jesu's best-known band) are also considered industrial titans as well, but I could be mistaken.

skinny puppy

your one stop shop for all your industrial needs :P

seriously if you want a concise overview of the evolution of industrial music, get Skinny Puppy's - The Singles Collection

Land of Rape and Honey by Ministry is also very very good although they haven't resembled an industrial band since then :)

Coil had some great stuff to that you might want to check into

Are you going to star listening to TV theme songs soon, too? Garth Brooks style country? Nursery rhymes?

What can I say, I get bored easily.

I already have some Coil... and KMFDM... I will check out Skinny Puppy though.

Oh, also have Godflesh but I would say Final is more like the industrial I am looking for. Godflesh is industrial metal.

I love Industrial, just not that much good stuff out there. Here's some album suggestions:

KMFDM - Retro This is pretty much a best of and if you've never listened to them before it's a good place to start. Tons of great songs on this one.

Pigface - Again, if you're not familiar with them they have a best of, lots of people collaborated on this thing which is interested in and of itself. If you just want a song check out "Nutopia" it's such an underrated and unknown song and it's fantastic.

Machines of Loving Grace - Concentration I don't know why these guys don't get more love but this album is one of the few things that has remained on my ipod from day one because I wore the cd out. Great stuff.

Godhead - Power Tool Stigmata After this album the guys kind of went away from industrial but there's tons of electronics to be found on this one and it's a sweet album. My fav track is probably "Fucked Up".

I am not the biggest Industiral fan. I do have a couple ministry albums that are cool for what they are.

Psalms 69 and The Mind is a terrible thing to taste rock pretty hard.

I've heard some good stuff about one of their newer albums i think it was called NOW

If we're talking Rammstein I say go for Mutter or Sehnsucht but that's just me.

Try them all, it won't do you any harm.

Frontline Assembly and Front 242 aswell.

Devin and Jed from SYL have made appearances on a couple FLA albums. I believe Jed was actually in the band at one point.

NIN isn't industrial. They just get labeled that way because it's probably the closest genre they fit into.
