I just listened to Asunder's Works Will COme Undone for the first time the other day, and frankly, I found it pretty gorgeous. You might like that, although it is certainly on the slower side of things, being Funeral Doom.

The other more traditional Doom bands that I have heard, like Candlemass and Doomsword have been competant enough but a little ridiculously overwrought for my tastes, and might turn you off

Oh, DOOMSWORD, is just a little bit OVER-AUGHT FOR MY TASTES, just a little, mind. I'm keeping it all in perspective. In the shape of things, actually, DOOMSWORD may not be so overwrought. After all they are just erring a little on the side of pretentiousness, no harm in that. The pretentiousness may turn you off, but believe me these boys are competent. It may not have the redolent beauty of so much Funeral Doom, but the framework is there. I expect a lot from these boys in the future.

I just found out that I nuked all my doomsword a few weeks back. Oh well. I guess I can listen to Candlemass if I ever want to list to doom metal.

That Asunder album is pretty good for the first song and half the second song, but the last 25 minutes are pretty much trash.

The Doors were a doomed band playing to a doomed generation. I would say they were the precursor to all this doom metal stuff.

nope. I doubt I'll download it either. I've put a good 86 hours into the game though. I'll probably beat it in the next weeks, I expect. I haven't played it in a while, to be honest.
