Can someone suggest a good GPS system for my car or direct me to a good website that has reviews/comparisons?
I'm looking for something in the $400-500 or less. Nothing "in-dash"...rather, I think they have portable ones that plug in to the cigarette lighter. That's what I'm looking for...and it should have a touch-screen.
Furthermore...does anyone know of a system that doesn't ream you each year to download the updated maps?

My dad has the Garmin Streetpilot c530. He got it for Christmas and loves it, it plugs into the cigarette lighter,can be plugged into a computer via usb to download updates etc.. He uses it constantly for work as he is on the road all the time. Has the touchscreen etc... I believe it cost around 400 bucks CDN so you should prolly find it for a little less in US funds.

I'm going to expound a little bit. You can use the i5 w/ your cigarette lighter and plug it into the computer for updates as well. Instead of a touch screen, it has a little wheel. Sometimes, I roll the little wheel when I mean to push it in, but that's the only complaint I have.
When I use it for work and know I have multiple stops, I just put all the address into it when I'm at home so they're there under "Recent Finds."
I can't believe how it finds restaurants and gas stations and shit. I never need an address for that kinda stuff.

This is probably way late B, but i'm going with the Nuvi 660. i'm a little worried that it might be too big, but it has a translator and bluetooth capabilities. this is the best price i've found yet. check it out.

It's more than just restaurant info. My father-in-law just gave us his old one, and in Phoenix at least, they're building roads so fast that the maps need to be updated every year or two otherwise they're useless.

Meh. They don't update any more often than Google, and they've had my road screwed up for 10 years and 25 complaint letters.
