compared to what they really sound like.
yes. Listening to specific boots such as AOL Sessions and Easy Street shows you how fucking good pearl jamsound. how heavy their guitars still are and how intense they play. I do not like the way they mix/release the live boots. The Aol Sessions, specifically comatose...the guitars are heavy and have a very nasty distortion on them, its all lost on the tour bootlegs. They should change that. this is a must.

"shit"?
Lemme ask you this: Do you even remember what bootlegs sounded like before all these official bootlegs?
PJ fans are so spoiled with these soundboards. 99% of you forget when we'd go crazy when an unofficial soundboard recording surfaced.
How many people can read this? Nak 300's > WM-D1 > Ana(M) > DAT(1) > CDR2
C'mon now.
wow, i wasnt commenting on tapers recording shows. i was once part of the paying 50 bucks for shitty live recordings back in the mid 90's...i love those.
my point here is ripping on the way pearl jam records their boots. this has nothing to do with tapers or not getting good sounding boots. Im talking about how on the official recordings they donot do the band justice. Listen to the AOL sessions, how good the gutiars sound. The guitars are nice and distorted, on the official boots none of that comes through and its a bit depressing. The easy street and AOl sessions, and any time on TV(etc..etc... you can hear how good the band sounds (gear wise) on the official boots its all lost.

I think you're right, but it is the band's choice. They have very often pointed out that what they're providing isn't necessarily a soundboard rip, but a mix of how the band sounds in a given arena on a given night.
Whereas a professional live release would usually mix each instrument individually and then mix in some crowd, as well, I believe the PJ boots just mix the various sources they have. Some of it is direct from the board, but a lot of it is the mash of noise effect you actually get at a show.

Tell me what you think is the best sounding bootleg with matt on drums? 7/22/98?
I just want a better picture of what you guys look for in a soundboard recording.
depends ont he gig. i love that one, but i love all the boots...
however, with the professional boots we are getting...all the gigs sound the same. SO thats why i love audience recordings, you actually get the atompshere..
as far as sound quality goes? i love the FM broadcasts the best, by far.
AOL Sessions is great, and i doubt easy street was mixed that much, just straight fro mthe board.
Or maybe im wrong, either or i love those sounding boots the best because it really brings out the guitar tone and what they actually sound like.

I think 3/17/95 is one of the best sounding mixes, same goes for the Philadelphia 2000 shows.
3/17/95 was FM Broadcast, those always have the best...along with solider field. I much enjoy those over they way PJ does it. I just feel the boots dont do the band justice, however awesome they are.
