Heard a complete rumor on the radio here in Austin today that Pearl Jam and the Police are being approached to headline the annual Austin City Limits Festival. That is all they said and that is all I know.

tomorrow's story:
When approached about headlinging at ACL, Pearl Jam's management thanked ACL for the offer, but explained that they don't play shows in the South. "Fuck those guys," said Kelly Curtis, "we'll play South Africa before we play the South of the US again."

I'd believe it.

They played the South in 03. In 04 they were doing swing states, most of which are not in the south. It's only been the 06 tour that they didn't do the south, but if you had a few days to take off for work you could have road tripped to the philly/nyc area and seen tons of shows and stayed with fans...

Really? Stayed with fans? Would these fans allow me the priviledge of crashing on their floor after my 2500 mile drive to Philly?
Cause that would be dope, yo.
PD, when they come to the south, can I sleep on your floor if I make the same trek only in reverse? Better yet, invite your sister-in-law over that night as well and we'll make hot rough Franksex all over the Persian rugs in your living room. I'll bring tarp.

this is such bullshit. correct me if i'm wrong, but last year was the first time that the south (half the country, mind you) was skipped altogether during a major word wide tour supporting a new album. And even though i was highly disappointed with the album, it would have totally made sense to me for them to tour the south. especially with all the political aspects the songs on Avocado contain. Last years tour was pretty much preaching to the choir. you sound really fucking jaded btw, sadly i can understand why.

In 1995, they toured really only on the west coast (and a tiny bit in the midwest). Then in 1996 they skipped the entire west coast and played the east coast and Europe. They have often had tours that aren't exactly nationwide/worldwide.

This is getting so redundant, but people keep posting the same nonsense, so here it goes again. Maybe if they would have said from the start they were dicking over the whole region, then a roadtrip could have been arranged. And this is only cuz im one of the lucky ones who is a student, and doesn't have kids and real responsibility that they cant just take a week of their lives off to follow a rock band. But if you remember, the way that tour was being announced, it was perfectly reasonable to think that a southern leg would be announced any day.
Whatever. I'm part of the ones that didn't get a show anywhere near them, and even I am tired of talking about it. But stupid posts that try to insinuate that midwest/southern fans can't complain because they could have just come to the north just really bother me. You got shows, yay! Good for you. I don't resent the 99% of fans who got their shows and enjoyed them. Its the 1% that give everybody a bad name by becoming so condescending and pretentious like they have some kind of divine right to PJ and seem to enjoy the fact that a lot of people didn't get a show. The people that seem like they would be disapointed if a southern tour was announced.
Wow, that really turned into a rant lol. Oh well.

You know as well as anyone that those 2 tours were were organized under entirely different circumstances than post-98 tours. Don't compare those tours to now. Just don't.

From Wikipedia:
"A recent interview with Charles Attal on austin360 provided these helpful pieces of information: The Police are definitely not playing ACL. They have got dates in Amsterdam during ACL. ACL festival booker Charles Attal also stated that Pearl Jam is not on the bill either. When asked about the Smashing Pumpkins or the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Attal responded that the headliners are even bigger."
