tell me the one album I need to check out from them.
Eat a Peach is pretty good. It has Blue Sky, Melissa, Trouble No More and Aint Wastin Time No More. My favorite Allman instrumental is on there, Little Martha.
Most Allman Brothers fans might say you need to get a live recording where you can really hear them stretch out. In that case there is Live at Filmore East, with a crazy version of In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.
Now they have their new lineup with Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks, and I've heard a few of their songs which are good. But if your looking for studio, I'd say Eat a Peach is a great place to start.
last sunday morning the sunshine felt like rain
week before, they all seemed the same
with the help of god and true friends i came to realize
i still had two strong legs and even wings to fly
and i, i ain't wastin' time no more
'cuz time goes by like hurricanes, and faster things

I'd say the Fillmore East album is the way to go. It's the best representation of the band as they should be heard, and among the greatest live albums ever made by anyone.
For studio, I really like the first album, but Eat A Peach is probably the best. Blue Sky is probably the finest studio cut they ever laid down. The two consecutive solos by Dickey and then Duane are perfect.

wait til you hear mountain jam on fillmore i hope you won't need to go anywhere for over half an hour.
You must have the "Fillmore Concerts" release, because it's not on the Live at the Fillmore East album. In fact, the recording on Eat A Peach is from the shows that they assembled the Fillmore East album. Double in fact, at the very end of Whipping Post, you can hear the first couple of notes of Mountain Jam, the same one that is on Eat A Peach.
