Again, either Ethics is a boring class or I'm just a fastidious person. Either way, here's the new poem I wrote in class.
Symbolism of “Love†and Death
Moonlight pours through the gaps in the wall
Sinking into the fabric of her gown
Thin fingers trace the outline of rose petals
Forming her homemade crown
Without fanfare, without celebration
She places the crown on her head
Without importance but without hesitation
She raises her arms and falls back on her bed
Head turned to the left
Staring out the window soaked with rust
She screams “Hang your head before me
I am the queen of glitter and dust.â€
And for just a moment
His image appears and walks through the door
Touches her lips and bows his head
Asking to hold her once more
“I’m afraid that’s out of the question
I’d love nothing more, but you must see
I gave everything to be a dream to you
There’s nothing tangible left of me.â€
Suddenly an idea strikes her
And as his apparition starts to fade
She lays her arms across his lap
Allowing him to see what he’s made her
“Open my scars and watch me illuminate.
Tell me what I did wrong and please elaborate.â€
She said “I was never much to you.
Just an outlet for your rage and lust.â€
She shakes and she cries
Our queen of glitter and dust.
And, as she cried on her bed
This child of the moonlight
Her wounds split open
Releasing dancing flames of light
A whirlwind of leaves spun around her
And she vanished; to be seen no more.
All that remained of our queen
Was her crown of rose petals
Now gracing the floor.
So tonight, I raise my glass
Before all of you whom I love so much
And appeal to you that we may sing
The praises of our queen of glitter and dust.
