fun fact: the the ij is actually supposed to be written as a y with an umlaut. In addition its an honorary member of the dutch alphabet, it's not on the official list, but its existence is acknowledged. In my name also.

the album is pretty good too.
My sister, a fine arts major, filled me in on what De Stijl actually is. It's a style of modern art characterized by simple forms and shapes, with minimal use of colour, much like what you see on the cover of the album. "De Stijl" kinda describes the Stripes' music perfectly, don't you think?
Hello Operator and Little Bird are two of my favourite songs period, never mind my favourite Stripes songs.

I always though it was ironic that the album they actually named after a minimalist style of art wasn't their best example of minimalist rock (which would be Elephant), but I digress...

yeah it's a perfect match. a lot of my favorite art was made by people who were part of De Stijl movement. It really just means "The Style". I especially love Mondriaan and Rietveld's work.
Around the time of White Blood Cells it seemed like I couldn't escape from "Fell in Love With a Girl" and then it was ten times worse with Elephant and "Seven Nation Army". Once I got over hating them for that I bought Elephant. Within a week I had all of their albums. As I was absorbing all of this music, De Stijl was the album I kept coming back to for another listen. So, it was definitely my initial favorite and that hasn't changed, though for a while there the only White Stripes I cared about was Get Behind Me Satan.
