Seriously. These albums' reputations need to be switched.

Do you prefer any of the US versions to the UK versions?

Not really, especially regarding Aftermath. I like Paint it Black and everything, but Under My Thumb kicks its ass.

Maybe I have some super version of the album, because it has both songs.

Seriously, though. Aftermath gets lauded as their first great album, while GHS is regarded as the one that broke their streak. Bullshit.

I don't know, man...I tend to agree with the consensus. Though, Rock and Roll and Black and Blue are far more embarrassing than Goats Head.

Listen to Mick on Stupid Girl. Talk about embarrassing. He sounds like it's his first time singing into a microphone.

I've been defending Goat's Head Soup on this board forever. It is a great album and ranks with just about anything else they've ever done.

Haha...this is true. However, the album immediately comes back to its senses with Lady Jane. Great song.

Fuck that. Now there's an album that needs to be defended.

Look...everyone wanted to be trippy and different in the late 60s. We can't blame The Rolling Stones.

Well, yeah, but that doesn't make TSMR a good (or even decent) album. It's like defending Bridges to Babylon because everyone else was doing shitty dance music.

Mowbs, what's your big complaint with GHS?

I don't think it's all that bad or anything, I just think it's a let down considering it followed Exile, Sticky Fingers, Let it Bleed and Beggars. True that that's a a helluva lineup to have to match, but I think it's fair in recognizing the album as the start of their decline.

Also, I think Aftermath might be their best pre-Beggars album. The only possible exception is Between the Buttons.
