I'm getting an iPod soon, so I'm going through all my mp3s and fixing labels and such. But I've got a question about album art: if I have a .jpg and have dragged it into iTunes to make it the album art for a bunch of songs, will that automatically be loaded into the iPod as the album art, or does the file have to be in a certain place with a certain name? I just don't want to work on this now and have it be screwed up later.

Also, has anyone heard anything about plans for a 6G iPod? I don't want to buy a 5.5G and have a newer, better model come out soon after. I'm not thinking about the iPhone at all, just a music player.

Thanks!

Once the song has album art in iTunes, yes it will be taken over to the iPod. All files on the iPod are put on as a random variation of letters. Yet whenever you play the song, all the song info and album are are right in front of you.

And yeah 6gb iPod nanos have been out over here in Australia for a while now.... I didn't know that 5.5gb ones existed...

Thanks for the first part. I guess I wasn't clear about the second part: I didn't mean 6GB iPods, but 6th generation iPods. My bad. Anyone hear about them yet?

I'd expect the 6th Gen iPods to come out around Sept/Oct. In time for the holiday season, but not to interfere with the launch of the iPhone in June/July. Though I'm not sure what features a 6th gen iPod would add. They could go to a full touch-sensitive screen, but that might cannibalize sales of the iPhone. Perhaps a full sized flash memory based iPod.

See here for the history of the different generations.

The rumor is that there will be a 32 GB flash-based full size ipod, possibly by the end of the year. It was mentioned at http://www.macrumors.com a while back:
