The following quotes are taken directly from a student who, I am saddened to inform you, attends the same University as myself (it will remain nameless).

"The gay society can not marry, which they claim is a right being taken away. Minorities are still claiming that they are being denied rights due to employment, education, etc."
By "gay society" I will assume you mean the homosexual community as I would hesitate to label The United States as "gay". Personally I feel this is a non-issue but I think that it will be interesting to see how the state and eventually federal governments address this because the concept of marriage is not clearly defined in black letter law, this ambiguity will certainly cause a conflict and I am anticipating a very controversial decision on the matter. (I took a big chance stating that last part...)

"One thing I saw this morning was that religious groups (61%) are being denied the right to believe in the lord and the bible in schools. The theory of evolution has always been taught in the school system and religious groups are now trying to fight this."
No one is denying anyone the right to "believe in the lord and bible" in schools, they are free to worship however they feel. The schools themselves are prohibited from advocating one religion over another. Would you feel a bit out of place if our university required its students to face east and pray several times a day? To address the "theory" of evolution, it has scarcely been taught in schools for half a century, this constitute your entire lifetime but that is far from always. Please refer to State v. John Scopes ("The Scopes Monkey Trial"). The rights of the individual precede what others percieve as the common good.

I am not a T.A. just a fellow student, idiot is actually female so I think I shall refer to her as "idiette" from this point forward. Unfortunately this is the only discussion we have had this semester but I can be reasonably certain that she will provide us with more golden nuggets of wisdom (the course requires a discussion every wednesday!).
I was just notified by my professor that the following:
Quote:
By "gay society" I will assume you mean the homosexual community as I would hesitate to label The United States as "gay".
..is caustic and was not appreciated. Its a shame, I thought it was clever.

I'm looking forward to it. Wow, the semester is just beginning too, isn't it?

I live in Tennessee and have to hear shit like that all the time in class. I usually keep my mouth shut because I don't feel like arguing for an entire class period and I don't think it would do much good. However if required to participate in discussion for a grade I would have to speak up.

Wow, did anyone ever point out to this girl that this statement is in complete contrast to her previous arguments? I love when people totally contradict themselves. Always makes it easier to prove that they're a dumbass.

Actually I attempted to do just that when I stated...

I actually agree with that statement. Do you?

BUT WAIT! It seems someone else has come to the defense of "idiot"!

I agree with you on the issue of people being to picky and not being able to tolerate differences of people around them. This country is over populated especially with ideas.
I think you need to apologize to civilization for suggesting that society can become "overpopulated, especially with ideas". That might be the most authoritarian statement I have ever heard, are you a fascist?

Did you provide a dictionary for them to look up "authoritarian"?

There's also the icing of:

*overpopulated,
Yeah, but I figured there was no use nitpicking when they flaunted their ignorance so proudly, I thought it best to address her "concept". Both of these statements were written by females, which has puzzled me because women, especially in my major, are almost vehemently liberal.

Political Science.
pffft... science isn't real anyway.
It is a misnomer, I wouldn't compare the analysis I do to the "harder" sciences like Physics, the concepts are much more abstract but, at times this ambiguity is what makes it so difficult.

Nope, they will find out the hard way an overzealous instructor gives a 15 minute diatribe on what our government is becoming.
