I guess any 2 song combo from one of the albums that you think just doesn't sound right.
Well I think the biggest one for me has to be the end of Hail Hail into the fade-in bassline of Who You Are. Well, I don't like the intro to that song in general(the rest of the song, however, i love), and coming after the end of Hail Hail... I just think it sounds too akward and just plain bad, especially the fade-in aspect of it.

I quite like that transition actually, the first 3 no code songs flow pretty well considering they're very different styles. The first ones i can think of are:

Evacuation --> Light years (light Years deserves a much better/more subtle song to follow...this is why Sad needed to be on the album, though the themes are very similar, they would work great as a pair.)

Present Tense --> Mankind, and also Mankind --> I'm open (i actually like mankind being on no code, but i think it's sandwiched in the worst place possible, i would have tracked no code so that Mankind was around Smile and Hail Hail in the 7, 8, and 9 spots on the album or something).

Help Help --> Bushleaguer (love Help Help, but all it's seriousness is destroyed with Bushleaguer follwing it, i would have preffered 1/2 full to follow it).

They're the first ones i think of, usually PJ don't get it too wrong..

You know, I was super pumped about the song after watching the AOL sessions. I LOVED the way Life Wasted ended in that video. The album version left me a little underwhelmed, given what I was expecting.

Probably life wasted into WWS cuz of the fade, but that might be a fade issue more than the transition

DTE into Red Dot just cuz red dot is so fucking pointless

but again that's a song issue

Probably the present tense mankind I'm open sequenece just looking at the transitions themselves

Deep --> Release, if only because we don't need any of the songs before Release.

i'm getting tired of this non-issue (LW's fadeout). first, fadeouts are common in rock music, it's usually made in order to ease the flow of the album and i think it contributes to the impact of the beginning of WWS. secondly, it's not like it is the greatest solo ever, it's no big a deal if it fades out. third, even if it was a sick solo, mind you people that Comfortably Numb fades out too and one more thing, if you never heard the leak, none of you would complain - would it be the same if you heard "All Those Yesterdays" or "Corduroy" without their fadeouts?
regarding this topic, i'd go with Present Tense - Mankind - I'm Open. way to kill the flow

I disagree about the No Code songs. I think the strange opening of Sometimes->Hail Hail->Who You ARe helps set the tone of the record. The jarring way in which Hail Hail hits you is great, and then the tribal-come-down of the Who You ARe intro is the perfect way to segue out of the straight up rock.

My picks:
Help Help to Bushleaguer is really awkward.
MFC -> Lowlight. I've said this before but Lowlight should've been a b-side. Yield would be great if it ended with MFC / In Hiding / Push Me, Pull Me / All Those Yesterdays

Should we bother mentioning Immortality into Stupid Mop?

Off He Goes -> Habit -> RM -> Lukin -> PT.

I know that's 5 songs, but Habit and Lukin ruin the entire album.

Yes it is 5 songs, but Habit and Lukin make the album what it is. Uneven and beautiful.

Off topic...but the LW solo sucks. It is un-original and should be a lot shorter than it is.

Anyways, Present Tense to Mankind is BAD.

Another one I thought of is the Rats--Elderly Woman combo. The way Ed's vocals pop in loud after the fade out of Rats seems too out of place to me. Not that that can't be good(Sometimes-Hail Hail is a perfct way to start No Code), but in this case, I don't like it. Plus, Hail Hail is a rocker, while Elderly WOman is just a little ballad that starts off loud volume wise. That is one song on Vs. that does not benefit from the production.

yeah good pick...i think the songs do kind of work together - the fade out then the nice ballad..but you're spot on in saying it starts too loud - it ruins it a bit. It would benefit from a little subtlety.

Seriously? Those are some of the worst songs in the catalog IMO (except MFC, love that one). Oh well.. different strokes for different folks.

I'd take Alive/Even Flow any day as my 1-2 combo.

i disagree with this post. except the different strokes portion.
and halfway agree with angus's. well they're not my favorite combos, but they're very good/great ones, although I think MFC is a perfect opener(judging from my Yield in booklet order Burnt disc). Which is why Red Dot is needed. DTE-->MFC would not have worked. Nor would any normal song, really, unless they put "Untitled" there.

i agree with you on the songs themselves, but i actually don't think the transition is too bad here.
