do you still watch "live" TV? like if a show is on mondaynight at 8pm, do you watch it?
news channels and the occasional lazy day aside, i don't think i've watched live tv since the World Cup last summer. if something i want to see is on tonight, i'll watch it tomorrow night.
I hardly ever watch "live" tv anymore, if an hour long show starts at 9 and I want to see it that night I'll start watching at about 9:15-9:20 just so I can skip all the commercials. Just about the only thing I watch live anymore is local news late night and Sportscenter in the mornings while I'm eating breakfast. Other than that it's all DVR for me.

I've been wondering lately how advertisers feel about DVRs now that millions of people can easily fast forward through the commercials. I've come to the conclusion that they surely have devised a way to subliminaly get your attention in the split second that the advert flashes on the screen.

This is definitely hurting the ratings of many shows, as Neilsen only recognizes ones that are watched live. I'm worried it could spell the end of some great shows, but I'm definitely guilty of it.

I've read that more than half of people who DV-R or Tivo their shows, actually do watch most of the commercials. I've no clue why, and it might be fake, because it's hard to believe. And the Nielsens, I think just this year, have started counting viewership stats from Tivo things.

It really is. I just got home from college where i have dvr, but dont here at home. I swear that the sports caster said "penis" instead of "pistons", but couldnt rewind it like i'm used to
Dude, I even DVR the fucking news. My favorite block of news is CBS Up to the Minute from 1-5 a.m. They go in-depth on each and every story, unlike shitty 24 hour cable news. I have it set to record each and every morning.

i got the tivo hd free and bought a lifetime membership on it. i'm going to use it for 30 days...if everything is fine, the series 2's are selling anywhere from 200-400 on ebay with a lifetime subscription. it could possible pay for my lifetime subscription - leading to a "free upgrade..."
