The project is Dead Man Walking II. Penn reprises his role as the murderer, but in the sequel he is a zombie who terrorizes Sally Field (Susan Sarandon declined to reprise her original role). Ed contributes the movie's theme song, which he penned: "Bloodline."

edit...which everyone says is great but doesn't actually make it into the movie again, causing Ed to return to his 92 angst during concerts.
I would recommend this book to anyone who hasn't read it. I couldn't put it down. Almost everyone I know has fantasized about doing just what this guy did. We just don't expect that it will kill us.
