The evolution of their setlists is very interesting.
In their first two years, they tended to open with Oceans and Wash, with Release occassionally, but not so often.
Beginning in their '93 shows, they began to open with Release and close with Indifference which is the holding pattern through the Vs tour.
The Vitalogy tour, they are confused and it doesn't sound right whatever they do, except for Soldier Fieldi, when they get the point of closing with Yellow Led and opening with Release.
'96 sees them shrugging their older opening songs and trying to promote the new songs, so they open with Long Road or Sometimes, with the occasional Wash, Oceans, and Release while begining to fall back on Yellow Led for the closers.
'98 Yield and ever after sees them putting Even Flow in the first ten and Alive in the last 7 (more or less).

also, it's interesting that during the summer pre-Vs tour of '93, they began playing larger venues (8,000-10,000 capacity). also, when they opened for U2, they played a bunch of Vs songs, which given weren't released, had to somewhat alienate the audience, in theory, but which was probably a calculated move by the band..... VERY interesting decisions.....

Go was a fun opener. Certainly got the heart started right off the bat.

I love the slow opening songs, but it's always exciting when they open with a rocker. Something like "Go" to start off just really send a signal that they're going to rock all night.
