Moroccan family barred from toilet

A family living in a public toilet in Morocco have spent seven years requesting more hygienic accommodation.

Their pleas fell on deaf ears, and Aze Adine Ould Baja has had to endure the ignominy of having "Sidi toilets" as the official address on his identity papers.

Desperate to do something about their plight, Mr Baja and his wife Khadija Makbout recently went to a local newspaper with their story.

"I was fed up with the situation and I was becoming more and more ill," Mr Baja explained.

"There were lots of vermin in the toilet. My little boy is only seven months old but he is also a Moroccan citizen and deserves better."

But a few days later the local authorities moved in to block up the toilet's entrance with cement and concrete.

Mr Baja, his wife and three children now find themselves barred from the only home they had.

Health fears

In a narrow street of the old medina in Sale, the city across the river from the capital, Rabat, Mr Baja explained how he fell into poverty and ended living in the public lavatory, where he was the attendant.

He worked at the toilet for 23 years, where he earned less than $1 a day.

"How can a married man feed his children on a dollar a day?" he asked.

How can people live in toilets without being bothered by people trying to use them?

Why would authorities brick up a toilet instead of just locking the door?

Why do toilets exist that no one uses?

Wouldn't this family be better off under a bridge?

This all sounds made up.

If you're living in a public toilet, why the fuck would you have a baby?!!?

So you can upgrade your toilet and move to one of those with a baby-changing facility.

IF you can't take care of a baby, why would you have a baby?
If you don't want a baby, why would you have a baby?
If you can't afford to take care of a baby, why would you have a baby?
If you're in high school, why would you have a baby?

Because God wants them to?

What else are poverty stricken undereducated individuals to do for entertainment? Why do you think everyone in Arkansas has 10 kids?

Well, I dunno. Last I checked you were in the pro-choice crowd. And I mean, who's to judge this Moroccan woman. If she wants to have kids, it's her body yo!

I am. But you know what? I'm also against the seatbelt laws in NJ and PA, but that doesn't stop me from wearing mine. It doesn't make the people who aren't wearing theirs any less of an idiot.
Difference here is wanting a baby isn't as simple as wanting a new teeshirt at the mall. This is an entire 18 year responsibility, and people who have children that they can't support are selfish, stupid, and not taking into account the needs of this other person that has not choice but to rely on them for proper care.

Basically, if you want to be a deadbeat that sleeps in a bathroom stall, that's your choice. You bring a child into the mix, that's an entire other irresponsible matter.

I just can't believe they concieved a baby in there. That's quite disturbing.
