In honor of the A-Rod incident last week (and subsequent backlash), let's see if we can identify some of the various unwritten rules in sports.
Here's one that never made much sense to me: a batter should never peek at where the catcher is set up prior to a pitch.

In baseball, don't steal when your team is up by X amount of runs.
well....how many runs is the cutoff? And what inning? We need to know!

This is more of a courtesy, but:
When a catcher takes a foul ball hard off his body/mask, the ump will dust off home plate/generally stall for time. Likewise, when an ump takes a hard foul ball of his body/mask, the catcher will take a few steps towards the mound and lob the ball to the pitcher and take his time getting back into his crouch. If you watch Diamondbacks games you should know this, because Mark Grace and Darren Sutton bring it up every single time it happens.
You should never ever bunt to break up a perfect game or no hitter, and if you do, you'd better hope like Hell someone behind you gets a base hit.

So you really are a D-Backs fan, eh? Who was the manager, Bob Brenly? I just remember him being livid after that game.

same with baseball...don't take the bat to the mound when charging the pitcher.

in basketball, when you're up big and there's less than 24 seconds on the clock and the other team has stopped fouling.....don't shoot.

in basketball when time is almost gone and the other team is down by three, don't just foul to put them on the line for two shots, let them try to take their three pointer.

usually 5 runs or more after the 6th inning.
I gotta call bullshit on this. Ive seen a lot of blown leads way bigger than 6 runs, it almost happened to LA monday night, up 5-0 and a no hitter in the 7th, all of a sudden it was 5-4.
I watched the Dodgers blow an 11-0 lead against the Phills when I was young. I say do anything you can to score as many runs as possible. fuck it, if the other team sucks THAT bad that they are down by 7-8-13 runs, then they deserve it either way

You can call bullshit all you want but it's there. Your team is up 5-0 in the 7th or 8th and you steal a base the guy at the plate is probably going to get plunked.
