I'm running a marathon in late July. I'd like to have a full PJ concert to listen to while running - something I've never listened to before and that I can put on for the first time. I'm looking for an overall quality bootleg that has:

-- Great sound quality (if it comes pre-2000)
-- Fast songs (not too many slow songs or mid-tempo)
-- High energy from the band

Anyone have suggestions? I know the whole "what's the best bootleg" has been played out here but I'm looking for something very specific and if anyone knows of any off the top of their head that would be great.

You might want two shows then, unless you're one of those guys who can run one in 2 1/2 hours.

Well, unless you, you know, want to listen to other stuff, too. Which you probably do. So that makes my post pointless. Like this one.

I hadn't thought about that. I have about six weeks to figure it out.

I'd get a copy of Lowlight's World Wide Mix. Several of those disks would be excellent to listen to while running.

The Kansas City show from '03 has a lot of uptempo stuff.

brixton 93 is a really great up-tempo boot but its not long, you could add newcastle or den haag 92

a lot of marathons have been outlawing any musical devices or headphones, so check before you run that it isnt illegal.

I'd go for something like Nashville 03. A good deal of fast songs and a ton of energy from the band and crowd. It is a longer show than most and some of the slower songs are things that they don't play often (which for me when I'm running, the freshness of a rarely played song keeps my energy up even though the song is slow). And in slower songs like Betterman and Small Town that they play all the time, the crowd is so enthusiastic, the energy level in those higher than usual, too.

Good luck with the marathon!

Hey, I also run marathons and listen ti PJ shows when i run... I like almost all the 06 shows bc they are very long, Ive listened to so many shows on the run but the ones that stick out from good runs are San Diego 06, all the Boston 03 shows... if you want alot of music and no repeats listen to those shows...what marathon are you running? Im doing the Vermont 50 Miler in September, Im going to need 9-12 hours of music for that one!

Awesome, thanks for all the tips. I'm running the San Francisco marathon in late July. I had totally forgotten about the SA shows from '05. I'll check out all of the suggestions but I think European shows/SA shows will be good because even when it's a song that I'm tired of hearing live the crowds make a big difference and if the band is into it I can get lost in the concert instead of looking at my watch every 3 minutes and focusing on running.
