Wasn't Schwarzenegger signed on for this years ago? I don't remember if the financing fell through or what, but I know he was supposed to make a movie of the same name.

Terrible idea to make this a mega-blockbuster with a big Hollywood star. Read the book and you'll see why. This could've been something really special. Instead, I expect to see a lot of car chases and explosions.

It was the same movie (based on the book) but i guess it fell through. And i bet that version would have been a lot more "Commando" and a lot less "28 Days Later".

Well, I was surprised at how good the first two-thirds of the movie were; a lot closer in tone to the book than I ever expected it'd be. The last third, however, gets way too conventional and makes too many lazy choices. I don't think they thought the audience could deal with the type of ending the book had, which is a shame.
Great job by Will Smith, also.

Really? That surprises me, as well.

Uh oh.
And I really don't like the way the infected/vampires/rabid dogs were depicted in the flick.

from what i've heard of the book, its going to be completely different
It's worlds closer than most of the trailers would have you think. The trailer that focuses on his daily routine is actually a pretty good representation of the first two-thirds of the movie.

The "vampires" are just single-minded monsters, with the exception of one relative genius among them. They're more like zombies than the new rung of human evolution they were in the book. I think that's one of the two big mistakes the movie makes. The other is letting Anna and Ethan be humans.
Other than that, their portrayal of Neville's temperament and his routine is pretty good. Aside from the gratuitous, "watch my rippling abs as I do pull-ups" shot to pull in the ladies.

Question: Does it live up to the title in the way the book did? By the closing chapters of the book, you understand exactly why the title is what it is. Does the movie do this, at least in its own particular way?
