Thomas Pridgen recently became the new drummer for the band. He joined them at the March 12th show in New Zealand, where the band debuted the song "Idle Tooth".

After shows in New Zealand and Australia, The Mars Volta toured a few West Coast venues as the headliner, then entered the studio to record the fourth LP tentatively scheduled for release in mid-to-late 2007. In a recent interview with "Time Off" magazine, Bixler-Zavala stated that the next album would be a concept album: "I don’t want to give the plot away right now, but the new one has to do with this gift that Omar found for me when he went traveling once. The gift came with a story that was attached to it, and we’re trying to re-interpret the story again." The band has yet to offer a title for the album.

I think their first album was a concept album...
I mean in a sense they are all formed on a concept of reading like a book, the way the songs are spaced and move through eachother.

this will probably be cracked out.

"The new album will feature 3 songs, each with 128 different layers. In true Mars Volta fashion, all of the layers will be constantly trying to elbow their way to the front of the mix for magnificently wankish results."

I might pick this up if I feel like a good ol' vomit-inducer.

Damn their original drummer was amazing. I hope this guy is at least half as good.

The new guy is amazing, judging from the bootleg i'd heard of him. He played alot faster and the songs came out sounding alot heavier. I believe he uses his double bass drums more frequently, compared to Jon.

A lot of bands I work my way back, but this one I'd recommend starting with Deloused in the Comatorium. This band takes so much shit, but I think they are the most exciting in music today.

I wish they would go back to Rubin, but I thought Amputechture was a lot better than Frances the Mute.

I haven't heard any decent recordings of the new songs, but I hope it turns out well. They're my favorite band not named Pearl Jam.

The thing that annoys me about these guys is that they seem to listen to a lot of miles davis and they seem to think that makes them as good as miles davis.... they are not. I loved their first e.p. and Deloused, but it's been straight to shitsville ever since. I hope John Theodore is doing well without this band.

The thing about TMV that annoys you is that they SEEM to try and sound like Miles Davis, according to you, which makes them suck? This is the dumbest thing i've heard in awhile. Based on you assuming something, which, according to you, they are not, they suck, indefinately.
