Pearl Jam put on one of the most uplifting shows ever to be captured on video. A gorgeous warm summer evening at Red Rocks was treated like a communal gathering of celebration. The funny thing is that the beginning and end of the show are slower quieter songs which take full advantage of the atmosphere. The timing couldn't have been more perfect. A landmark show in Pearl Jam's concert history. 5 stars.
06/20/95 - Red Rocks Amphitheater: Morrison, CO [132m]
attendance: 9,000
support act: Bad Religion
set: Long Road, Jeremy (new), Ship Song, Footsteps, Falling Down, Better Man, Last Exit, Spin the Black Circle, Animal, Tremor Christ, Corduroy, Not for You, Go, State of Love and Trust, Daughter/(This Boy), Garden, I've Just Seen a Face (Ed solo), Alive, Whipping, Lukin, Rearviewmirror/Improv (Words Seem Out of Place), Elderly Woman, Blood
enc 1: Black, Porch, Immortality
enc 2: Indifference
notes: PJ performs their first six songs seated, experiencing some of the effects of the altitude and taking a different approach from the previous night. 'Ship Song' is by Nick Cave. They get frustrated being seated (Stone declares, "All right, "fuck the seats") and they dump the chairs as they launch into 'Last Exit.'
The 'Falling Down' tune surfaces five years later, forming the melody for the song 'Distress' on The Rockfords album. 'RVM' is interrupted to break up a fight. ("What are you guys fighting for? This is a rock and roll concert.") PJ picks up the song right where they left off. A new, slower version of 'Jeremy' is premiered here. The impromptu 'I've Just Seen a Face,' a Beatles' tune, is sung by Ed a capella. 'This Boy' is a song by an LA band, That Dog. Ed's parting comment: "Thanks for coming up to the mountain with us."

You guys have got to be kidding me. I clearly remember when this dvd was ready to be released, it was the biggest deal ever. The camerawork is so superb, it has all the qualities of a proshot vid.
Try youkan or demonoid, or mebby swc. Have you guys been hiding under a rock all these years?

I'm not really into DVD's. I have the official ones and Kitchener. And I hardly ever watch them.

I was at MSG 2. I watched the DVD once. That's enough. I prefer my own visusal recollections. I enjoy listening to the bootleg, however.

I'm with you there. Same for me and the Kitchener DVD. I must have listened to that bootleg a 1000 times, but the DVD... well... it's there, somewhere in my closet. Don't really know where.

From my earliest days collecting PJ shows, this has always been one of my favorite shows, but I've never seen the DVD either. I only have SVT, TB2K, and one bootleg DVD though, also not a video fan. But if I were to get another bootleg, this would be the one.

That's how a CC review should be, short and to the point. Not a bunch of nonsense saying how Ed missed a lyric here or changed a lyric there, or what pants Stone is wearing.
