So Sam Jackson turns out to be the source of the ghosts and is the main villain?

is this actually a feature length movie? because the story is about 20 pages long and not much happens.

Well, I guess this film is a big hit with the critics. Largely because of Cusack and the films turn to psychological horror and not the horror porn that is taking over the theaters today (Hostel, Saw, blah blah blah). And it's about a guy investigating hauntings. I'm in! I can't wait to see it :D

Could be interesting, though King adaptations are hit or miss and the last time I saw John Cusack in a role like this I got burnt big time.

i don't see how they can make a feature length film from this story. gonna add a lot more stuff that happens in the hotel room i guess and probably expand the role of samuel l.'s character. i don't see it being a great movie though, not very much story or anything.

the film is meh but Cusack really is great. I think he should get an Oscar Nomination for just carrying the film on his back

shawshank redemption is a novella with a rich story. 1408 is 30 pages of a guy being in a room.

Wasted money on the DVD of the director's cut. The DC is a rare fail above the usual film, although I haven't seen the DC in its entirety (the ending is much, much worse, and doesn't match the actual book).

I rate this one 3.5/4 stars. It was a genuine scare in the middle - so bad that I almost had to stop watching it since I was in an intentionally dark living room alone with earphones on.

As said above, this is my fave SK short story, and the movie delivered until the very end, when the schmaltzy shit with his daughter was introduced. But it ended at the right point, before it turned from horror into sludge. Worth buying sight-unseen from the shelves, and had enough "creepiness" above the requisite "jumping in your seat scares" to re-watch.

Loved it, but maybe they should've taken all the damn commercials out of the original version disk. The Truth commercial at the beginning practically forced me to light up while watching it with a big grin on my face.

P.S. Excellent performances in this film, especially by JC.

I haven't seen the film yet, but the short story really unsettled me... yeesh that was creepy.

Is it worth a view, then?

I liked it. It had some cool moments although I felt it started of too slow, the characters seemed lifeless but that got a lot better during the movie. The very ending... well. Maybe one should stop watching about three minutes before the films ends...
