One of the creepier films I saw was Session 9. The atmosphere was excellent and it gave off a kind of ghostlike vibe but I don't believe there actually were ghosts. Jacob's Ladder is another movie that has an excellent atmosphere to it.

What do you folks think?

I just find movies like the Shining and Exorcist etc not as scary as they've been parodied and they don't have the same effect, for me. Spoorlos is probably my next film to see if it's as creepy as it's been made out to be.

The Descent's mix of claustrophobia and the other surprises creep me out.

Oh ya. The part with the girl climbing through that tiny opening and shit starts falling around her while she screams. That was creepy as hell for anyone that is even remotely clausterphobic.

I didn't find it all that creepy. I saw it after the remake though. I even watched it with headphones on, which should in theory be a more intimate experience. I just found that sure they leave it up to your imagination for the violence, but I was like "ok he got dragged into the room, so what". I have an excellent imagination but it just didn't really produce that creepy atmosphere for me. People screaming, whether realistic or not, is moreso annoying than it is terrifying.

First film that came to my mind as well.

The darkness and silence is just too much for me. Freaky as hell.

First of all, I have to give props for Session 9. I'm always telling people about that little gem if they're looking for something more along the lines of psychological terror or creepy. Great movie.

Most movies that "creep" me out tend to be older ones, and it really does depend on your definition of creepiness. Rosemary's Baby always did it for me and Freaks is extremely creepy almost a century later.

I'm sure there's tons more but I'm having a really shitty morning and can't think straight. Stupid cold.

even though it's pretty bad, house of 1000 corpses is pretty creepy

I think our definition of creepiness does differ completely lol. I just saw that film as an exploitation film crammed with things that are supposed to shock. It didn't really provide and real fear because it was so over the top with cutting off skins from folks heads, etc.

Yeah I don't know if I'd call House of 1000 Corpses creepy either or not. Though I do really like that movie. Sure it's bad, but it's fun in a sick sort of way. The opening with Capt. Spaulding still cracks me up to this day.

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer is an extremely disturbing movie, but I'm guessing by creepy you're looking for more supernatural type stuff.

Honestly, I've been wanting to see a good movie like this myself, it seems forever since I've seen a good one.

The Shining is another obvious example.

They don't really make a ton of these creepy, in my sense it seems, today. It's all the ultraviolent, shock stuff now. As dumb as it sounds, the initial 5 or 10 minutes to Darkness Falls was pretty creepy. Unfortunately the movie QUICKLY plummets into mediocrity and retardation.

The directors just try to one up each other for shock value. Not do it in a new and interesting way.

i know, the horror genre is in a pretty sad state of affairs right now, although there have been some diamonds in the shit
