Pearl Jam To Testify On Behalf Of Festival Families.... U.S. rockers Pearl Jam will testify in a bid to help the families who lost their loved ones at the 2000 Roskilde Festival in Denmark.
Nine people were crushed to death in front of the stage during the band's set and this has left an indelible impression on the rock stars.
Before the rock group played in Copenhagen on Tuesday night (26Jun07) - their first gig in Denmark since the tragedy - frontman Eddie Vedder and his bandmates requested a meeting with the lawyer for the families who have so far sued the festival to no avail.
High Court lawyer Tyge Trier announced that either frontman Eddie Vedder or guitarist Stone Gossard will show up in court to testify on behalf of the families.
Four of the families demand the festival assumes responsibility for what happened and are looking to seek payment of 170,000 Danish kroner ($31,000/£15,500) in each case.
The amount is to cover the funeral costs and the upkeep of the burial plots.

Let me get this straight...
-7 years passed since the tragedy -Only when PJ was in denmark did this idea surface. Until they returned to denmark, did they totally forget what happened or something?
Good for them, but why the fuck did it take 7 years? Sounds like this was on the bottom of the priority list for PJ.

The article says the families have been trying to sue to no avail. Perhaps the band is offering to testify now because there's been no headway. They were absolved of any guilt for the incident, so they had no reason to testify before and left the legal issues to the family, hoping that justice was served. See what I'm saying?

probably b/c they were not directly involved in the proceedings and didnt get much info on the proceedings until the denmark concert where they talked to the families of those who died and their lawyers

Well in that case I blame the families for not seeking PJs assistance beforehand. The band would not have rejected that request.
you should blame the dickhead who is preventing the family from getting money to bury their children
i dont know.... its a touchy subject and it sounds inhumane i know but when you buy a ticket for a festival/concert you're assuming all responsibility if you're injured or anything happens to you while you attend said festival/concert.
here... straight off the back of a ticketmaster ticket
"Ticket holder acknowledges all risks incidental to any game or event for which the ticket is issued, whether occurring during or after the game or event, and hereby agree to assume the same."
Im not saying its NOT wrong that theyre screwing the families because it was a terrible tragedy and the humane thing would be to provide some financial support for the families involved , Im just saying there is a reason they havent legally been bound to do so yet.
Its really a moral issue by the promoters of Roskilde as opposed to a judicial matter. There is most likely no chance of beating them in a court of law.

$31,000 x 9=$279,000 Pearl Jam could certainly afford that...or a benefit concert or something since they really don't have a legal case that will hold up...the families dont need another 7 years of this crap!
