Prior to 1931, a ball that bounced over an outfield fence during a major league game was considered a home run.

1. When the ball went through Bill Buckner's legs in the 86 world series the Red Sox did not lose the world series. They lost game six of a seven game series. They still had to play game seven.
2. If Bill Buckner catches the ground ball and tags first base, the Red Sox do not win the world series. The game was already tied at this point.
Seems I meet a lot of people that don't know this.

also, Clemens gets crap for allegedly asking out of the game, but people don't know he had already thrown 135 pitches.

I think people gave him crap for saying he was pulled when he really asked out. But yeah, I don't see anything wrong with taking yourself out if you don't think you have it.

During WWII, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles merged for a season because of lack of players due to the war. They were dubbed "The Steagles."

That may be an urban legend. The number of ABs and KS changes each time I hear it and some claim that Mantle only had 16 ABs (12 Ks ) against him. Mantle DID give him his nickname though.

Also, he was wearing a Chicago Cubs batting glove, so he had no chance in hell of ever making that play.
