Health Care. I think that the loan system of the american universties work quite well. It forces the person to work hard.

How much of an education for free, Peeps? Nowadays, a bachelor's degree is almost equivalent to a high school diploma 20 years ago.
i disagree
but we are talking free bachelors. im not sure if other countries do the free masters or phd, if they do, then lets include that
Frank's right, pretty much everyone who is in the business field needs a graduate degree if he/she wants to be competitive, according a few teachers and most of my friends.

Education. I have more drive than others so even in a free higher education place I'd still make sure I'm better educated and a have amore desirable skill set than others. From there I can look after my own healthcare needs.

Functionality. People would be better off if their health care is assured rather than if they were educated. I believe if you strip a human down to his/her core need, it's going to be about survival.

But the question was what would be more beneficial to America, not you personally.

I'm going to say health care, we are paying through the nose for both here but I seem to whinge more about health care than my uni debt. I can't comment on the American system but I have found myself not seeking medical attention when I need to because I can't afford it. My dad was also made to wait for cancer surgery because he was not a private patient. The state of our elderly, the length of out waiting lists in hospitals as well as general access to GP's leads me to believe that health care in Australia is in crisis.

we have subsidised health care, we do not have free health care. I pay money to medicare, I pay for private health and then I pay again to visit a doctor.
