I have to say that he says some stupid shit but he's actually a really nice guy. He has a place in downtown tampa and he used to come into my friends store whenever he was in town and he was cooler than I thought he would be. He does come off as a dumb ass who should shut the fuck up though

I love watching him play......that kick of dirt over the plate two weeks ago was on frustration for getting plunked 2-3 times when the Tigers were sweeping the Red Sox.

I don't mind Sheffield so much, but to say he didn't take steroids cause("you shoot steroids in your butt") is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. I just couldn't get past that in the Real Sports interbiew. That's like saying I don't do heroin cause i don't shoot it in my arm.
I don't know why people have such a hard time ignoring him . . .
He's doing something for Detroit kids now. He was on a local commercial here recently. Give the guy a break, while he's "being a tiger for kids."
1/2 the ppl say he's a douchebag, 1/2 the ppl say he's cool.
But so far he's been a great accompaniment to the Tiger's batting line up, even though Comerica Park can do without the f*cking ridiculous Chef's hats.

Sheffield wore number 11 on his back in New York so everyone could be doubly sure who he looks out for. Sheffield is right to want to wring every dollar from the short career of the pro athlete, but, at this late stage, he's made well over $100 million, and the constant carping about his contracts (the most recent of which he negotiated himself) is spectacularly tedious. This is a man who, when St. Peter welcomes him to Heaven, will bitch that he didn't get another three-year extension tagged onto the end of his lifespan. An April 29 collision with Shea Hillenbrand at first base inflicted soft tissue damage to Sheffield's wrist, largely wiping out the rest of his season. When Sheffield returned, the acquisition of Bobby Abreu had made his Skylab-like routes unwelcome in the outfield. A rushed move to first base didn't pan out; it was ironic that the man who once asserted that he intentionally threw balls over his first baseman's head was now missing them from the opposite side of the equation. Traded to Detoit, he'll get into the Tigers' outfield/DH mix and try to make a living out of hitting Johan Santana. The Tigers extended his deal by two years, which means the bitching won't start until sometime in 2008.

I caught his appearance on Real Sports last night and his comments about Torre, steroids, etc. were nowhere near as bad as the NY Media made them out to be when the transcripts become public last Thursday. Is he a typical, arrogant asshole athlete? Absolutely. Is there worse pieces of shit in sports than Sheffield? Without a doubt.
I think the media, once they find a specific athlete they want to pile on, do so with a gusto. After all, Gary is not out there shooting people or participating in the slaying of innocent animals.
