I'm going to lollapollooza and now since this new chicago show is 18+ everyone I'm going with but me are going. Should I pay for a tix and try to get in or forget about it?

How old are you? Close to 18? More importantly: how old do you look?
The chances of you getting tickets are quite small, I would imagine, but I'd certainly throw caution to the wind and try and get 'em if you're gonna be at Lolla anyway. If you get tix, you'll find a way in.

One thing I don't understand: age limits for venues are usually in place due to liquor licensing laws. I can understand over-18 venues in Australia, the UK, Ireland and Europe, as the drinking age is 18. If the legal drinking age in the US in 21, why is the show 18+? Any takers?

you would get away with it in the UK, especially the one with the close shave.

but as the US is more used to 21 limit..they might simply ask for an ID if you look anywhere near 20.

Also remember you cannot purchase the ticket yourself, that'd give you away straight since you have to provide an ID.
you'll need to get someone else spare.

Just go, they wont ever ask for an ID. the guys at the gates are making sure that you dont bring anyting in that your not supposed to, thats pretty much what they are there for. See ya In Chicago...

Sorry to gloat, but I somehow MANAGED TO GET TICKETS TO THIS SHOW! Fuck yeah! I never get through on Ticketmaster the day things go on sale...luck was with me.

btw, I've seen practically every single Pearl Jam concert you've seen...so really, it had to work that we'd be at both Chicago shows.

but I'm with Randal..I don't get the 18..unless IL has an 18 licencing limit rather than 21 (and I was pissed when I first visited Ireland aged nearly 17 and was not allowed to taste the guiness..coming from France where I could get beer in bars age 12! 21 is bloody ridiculous..you can drive, vote, sent to war or executed before you can drink? WTF?)

That's hypocrisy in its truest form: you can kill (in a war, with your car), but you can't enjoy culture and other beauty (nudity, concerts)...

Mirella (The Netherlands have a drinking age of 16 but there's a discussion of raising it to 18, which is the age to drive and vote. Concerts are for all ages.)

The 18+ has to do with curfew laws. If it is all-ages, the show has to end by 10pm, whereas 18+ it can go as late as they want.

Are people below 18 not allowed outside after 10?
