Wow. Sickly fascinating. Anyone else read this yet? krakauers most recent novel (i believe) about two mormons who killed their sister in law and daughter as a direct order from God. These are some pretty sick and twisted individuals, yet they are so not insane at the same time. The religion is ridiculous, hwoever, i think the only reason it seems so ridiculous is that its so recent and easy to refute. Im sure i would have felt the same about christiantity (even though i kind of do.) however, this isnt a religious debate.
Thus, the book is fucking great. Krakauer is once again a hell of a story teller. highly suggest it.
read it a few months back.....insanely fascinating.....
this religion is growing more and more every day, and gaining more and more influence in the political world, and it's entirely based on a crazy con-man's ability to sweet talk poor, ignorant farmers back in the day......basis of a lot of religions i suppose....with the faith's history so well documented, it being less than 200 years old, krakauer pieces it all together in his usual style of history/interview/journalistic writing.....

When dan lafferty is explaining the murders in detail, it was pretty difficult to read.

Just finished this. It was amazing. The best part was all the history of Mormonism. I really never knew much about it. I can't believe people actually believe that bull shit. I love how they think that anyone with a skin color other than white are cursed by God. What a bunch of kooks.

Thanks for the reviews on this. Been thinking about picking it up, and now I will. I just love to read more bizare religious beliefs. Makes me feel better about not believing.

Now I dont know your religious beliefs, but arent they all that fucking ridiculous?
I mean, the reason mormonosim seems even crazier is because (and kraukauer points this out) this religion started during the "print era" so everything is well documented, the people are a little more educated perhaps and it just seems so fucking absurd. Im sure if christianity came out 150 years ago we'd think the same thing
"we" = the general population
and i do think its all ridiculous.
The hardest part about the book was when lafferty was describing the murders from jail....hard to read.
