they were wrong. it was cool how you could hear a pin drop in the kohl center as the illini kept hitting their free throws in the last 90 seconds

except vegas who had the illini as a 2.5 point favorite... that alone had me convinced the illini would pull it out... whenever everyone is jumping one way, bet the other side (except for the pats in a couple weeks)

im banking on michigan state taking them down here in a week...

but last night was a wonderful coaching job by weber... he realized that constant pressure would be put on the trio of guards, and augustine answered his prayers by playing incredibly well... he knew big james would have to be the key, and he was...

good job illini, but you better lose soon, or the tournament pressure of march and being undefeated may leave you out of the final four... and i know some people say "why lose?".... well come march you dont want everyone gunning for you as an undefeated team

Finally, an Illinois team that doesn't suck! :P

I'm so mad, I missed the game last night.

i never played college ball, but i just don't understand the mentality that it's good to lose a game. Come march, it doesn't matter if "everyone" is gunning for you, 'cuz you only gotta beat six teams who should be "gunning for you" even if your record is 15-15.

could you even imagine the hype illinois would have if they were on the road to matching what has last been done by a fabulous indiana team?... the exposure would be great for the team (as they dont have shit for recruits coming as of yet), but the pressure that would be on them would be enormous... just not a good position to be in... and it's not just college basketball, all sports understand the importance of a loss (especially coaches)...

but i wouldnt think too much about it, as i dont think any team in this day of college basketball can go undefeated wire-to-wire in a real conference(even with a weakass bigten)

i understand what you're saying, but i still don't buy into it. there's pressure in the tournament regardless.

i know it's not the ACC or anything, but four of the eleven teams in the big ten are in the top 25. granted, most of the teams that aren't in the top 25 are absolutely wretched, but 'weakass' might be pushing it a bit

Yeah, I guess after 6 straight losses at UW, Illinois was due. Too bad for UW that Devin Harris declared for the draft.

he also said something like this:

"If this Illini team wins at MSU next week, I think they're going to run the table and go undefeated. But I still think a team with two losses is the best team in the country."

i don't get into strength of schedule too much, but...what?

it's obvious to him as it is to anyone that watches tons of college basketball that carolina is the most talented team in the country... and he feels roy will have them ready come march... i hope he's right... i think he is
