Please leave out answers like 'make good music' or what have you
I miss the little vocal fills eddie used to do with his voice, especially on the first two records (the moaning throughout alive, the end of black, the little growl during animal). It gave him a presence throughout the song, and made the performances a little more intense (like he had to keep singing even if he had nothing to say)

The big thing that i've missed, is Eddie's soaring register. What i mean by that is the way his voice broke into this really beautiful higher tone - something that hasn't been used nearly enough since Yield. The choruses to Given to Fly and In Hiding, the backing vocals to the Red Mosquito outro are the first examples i can think off. He's still great at doing this live, he just seems hesitant to do it in the studio, for example Man of the hour - the way he takes the bridge an octave higher is amazing, and also the time he 'fucked up' NAIS a few years back and ended up singing the ending higher - also amazing.

Yeah, this is a good one, it made it seem like Eddie was really a part of the song, that he meant it, as opposed to just coming in and singing his verses and choruses. This is similar to what i was also saying in the Yield thread about the band leaving in loads of cool background noises within the music etc - something completely lacking in Avocado, they really give a depth and personal touch to the song. Good thread idea.

I agree, i think they've been too safe on the last two albums, with the exceptions of Stone's guitar tunings on Riot Act, and the songs that Matt has helped out with.

whats weird is, before self titled, im sure alot of people would have said they want the next record to be a rocker

Yeah, true, but that's mainly because Riot Act didn't please people wanting a good, slightly more experimental album (like No Code/Binaural), and nor did it please people wanting a rocking album...it just kind of stuck somewhere inbetween.

After Riot Act, I was one of the people wanting a rocker. We got one, and now I want something different

Low ticket prices. I realized how much they have gone up over the last four years while looking at my order history through the 10C. A pair of tix in 03 was $80. A pair of tix last year was $120. The Vic tix were $160 a pair. The band and their management defintely seem to have become far more business-like in their operations in the last few years. 10C certainly doesn't seem like the grassroots type of operation it once was. Yes, I realize tix are still cheaper than most, if not all, acts of their caliber and status, but it's still disappointing considering how they lobbied in the mid-90s. $60 for a ticket is a lot, especially for the younger kids out there.

60 dollars is a significant amount of money, but I don't think it's all that much for a Pearl Jam show. Compared to other artists that used to be the biggest band in the world (The Stones, Springsteen, U2), I think we're getting off pretty easy. Not to mention how well Pearl Jam mix up their setlists from show to show, and the fact that they play 2.5-3 hours every night. Would I like tickets to be cheaper? Sure. But I'm not gonna bitch just yet about seeing what is arguably the greatest live band in the world for 60 bucks.
