Looking forward to this one - album fully recorded and the band are now in the mixing stage whilst on tour. I hope it is more of a return to the Recovering The Satellites era, although i liked Hard Candy. Anyone else a fan of CC??

yup yup. ill be seeing them at 2 shows in maryland in a couple of weeks. should be great.
im probably one of about 4 people on this board that think the crows are very underrated, and that people who only hear the crap pop singles they put out (american girls, hangin around, accidently in love, etc) are totally missing out because those hits are not a good representation of what the band really does well.
just my humble opinion.

Yes I have, many, many times. I knew this would come up, and I'm certainly not taking anything away from it by my earlier statement, but it's not perfect.

August is perfect.
I don't know about all that. I think it's one of the better pop albums of the 90's, but calling it perfect is going a little far.

Counting Crows were one of my favorite bands, along with Pearl Jam, for a long time. I still really love their music. I'm glad this thread exists to counterbalance the Counting Crows bashing in the DMB thread.
Even if the music isn't completely revolutionary or unprecedented, I think August and Everything After encapsulates a mood that I haven't heard in any other album. I thoroughly enjoy their other albums as well.

I agree that the singles are not representative of their whole body of work. People should at least give all of August a chance before dismissing CC.

My favorite song off of August is Omaha, and I'm pretty sure that one wasn't a single.
My least favorite song off of August is Round Here, and I'm pretty sure that one was a single.

August is for me, perfect. I love everything about the album.
I love all 4 of their albums, and really believe that they are easily one of the top live bands out there. (yes, i understand, if youre not really into them, you may not appreciate a 10 minute round here....but if it ever hits you the right way, it will blow you away, and you'll be hooked forever...at least i was)
About Hard Candy....why the dislike? The pop singles or slick production? I agree that it is the "least good" of their albums, but I wouldn't say it sucks by any means. If you listen to some of the songs, basically once again skipping the singles, its a solid album. Richard Manuel is Dead, Butterfly in Reverse, Miami, Carriage, Why Should You Come When I call, Up All Night, Hol. in Spain.....basically I love the whole album lol. I think the radio songs (HC, American Girls and that awful Big Yellow Taxi) didn't do any justice to the album again.

i like CC a lot... i think they are the are polar opposites from DMB. DMB can not produce a quality album anymore and their live shows are great... CCs have great albums but Adam sucks live.
Yeah, Adam is hit or miss or a lot live, but the guy can still sing his ass off. He just goes off on tangents at times and is obviously a little self-absorbed too (what frontman isn't though). I think he prob watched Van Morrison a lot growing up and took some of that with him. Got to see the Shim Sham show in '02 and it's still top 5 shows I've been to, easily. I've heard some good things from their recent gigs too. My bro saw them last week and said they played a very long and energetic show, and that Adam mentioned August is being re-issued before the new album drops. Just wondering, does anyone have any good info about the new material? Supposedly November is the release date, but who really knows. Like someone mentioned earlier, I'd like to hear some Satellites in the new one, since that's my fave too.

Reissued? Like how? I wonder what they'll include with that - I have the Master version of that album with the instrumental separation in all it's glory and it's really fantastic. I don't know how they can improve upon that.
