i got a multiformat dvd burner in my computer. it's supposed to burn at 8x max speed. that would usually take about 7-8 minutes to burn a complete dvd right?
anyway, it's burning really slow. it takes 30-40 mintues to burn a dvd (although i choose the 8x speed) and i dont know what's wrong. i even unchecked the buffer underrun option and it's still slow. my friends got the same dvd burner and they dont have this problem.

today i noticed it was actually burning at 1x - 1.2x. what can i do to solve this? thanks in advance. :?

I've had this problem. I got a feeling your drive is in PIO mode. What you do is, well check the following for me.

Start > My Computer > (Right Click and Select) > Properties > Hardware Tab > Device Manager.

Now expand out the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers tab. You should have Primary IDE Channel and Secondary IDE Channel appear twice or three times. Go through each one (Right Click > Properties > Advanced) if any of them have, beside Current Transfer Mode something called "PIO Mode" beside it. If so, then this is your drive.

So what you do is, if this is the case. You go back to Device Manager. Right Click on the IDE Channel that the PIO Mode transfer mode is on. You then click Uninstall and let it do it's work (Should do it automatically) then, restart your computer. This will automatically install you drive back when you login and hence a drive in Ultra DMA Mode, or DMA Mode, which is the normal drive mode.

If you need me to advance on anything, feel free to let me know. But I think this is your problem, as it's happened to me. If it's not, then I'll see if I can find anything else out.

Jack.
