This is the first Red Mosquito Presidential Straw Poll for the 2008 election. Voting will be open for a week.

In order to more accurately gauge the popularity of the candidates, you may choose two candidates as first and second choice (although they will be weighted equally in the tally).

We'll do this again in a couple of months to see how opinions have changed.

Thanks for participating!!!

I only cast a vote for Ron Paul, just for you. :)

I didn't know Tancredo declared--I wonder how strong the anti-immigration faction is.

Not sure who I'll be voting for, tempted to say none of the above. Probably Obama, Edwards, or Kucinich.

I'm curious as to how many people are "really excited" about their particular choice. No one really gets me pumped, so I'm wondering if this is going to be another "lesser of two evils" election.

Some of the political websites have been doing more sophisticated polling that give a better idea of that sort of thing. Polls that allow ranking are helpful. Hell, we all saw that poll a couple weeks ago that showed "none of the above" leading the GOP field, so we know how excited most Republicans are about THEIR choices.

The feel I've been getting from my reading is that there are few people who are REALLY gung-ho towards any one Democratic candidate, but that most Democrats are pretty happy with the choices and have 2 or 3 candidates that they'd be happy to support in a general election.

But the comment section of this thread would be a good place for people to qualify their votes by saying how strongly or not they support their choices.

Although I realize the sample size is currently tiny, its pretty hilarious that Edwards is tied with Ron Paul.

You do realize how different both of those candidates are, right?

Out of all the current choices, my first choice is Rudy Giuliani. I agree with his position in regards to the War on Terror and taxation (although his health care plan needs to be modified to have a real impact on those who have no/insufficient coverage). Perhaps more importantly, getting a pro-gay marriage, pro-choice candidate would relieve the grasp that the Reilgious Right has on the Republican party, which needs to return to it's conservative roots (Ron Paul goes too far for my taste).....limited government interference in people's personal lives. Rudy, in my opinion, is the last guy who is going to have a "family values" platform, and I don't think any candidate should.

Beyond Giuliani, I would wait to see who else enters the race. Given the prolonged season, I have a feeling we will not only see Fred Thompson (pass) and Newt Gingrich (pass) enter the race, but Bloomberg will probably toss his hat in as well. Who knows who else will jump in, but one possible scenario on March 1st, 2008 is Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney, which would be a "lesser of two evils" scenario in my opinion. We'll see how things continue to shake out.

Nope, didn't convince me.

Perhaps it's having President Bush being compared to Hitler ad nauseam.
