I know someone will talk about how hot this is and get it locked, but I feel that the crossing of the gay/straight line on this type of story deserved a mention. And in Charlotte of all places. They haven't even properly integrated all of their schools from the 50's yet. But they're very progressive in their sexual proclivities.

Amanda Athey CHARLOTTE -- A teacher charged with having an inappropriate affair with a female student turned herself in to the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office Wednesday afternoon.

Amanda Maria Athey, 27, a former English teacher at Hopewell High School, is now out on bond.

The former teacher was served four warrants, charged with three counts of indecent liberties between a teacher and student and one count of sexual activity between a teacher and student.

Authorities have conducted a search at Athey's home in Harrisburg.

According to the search warrant, Athey told the student's parents she was married and her husband Cal had a vasectomy and wasn't able to have children. That's why she said, she loved to be around this student.

The parents didn't buy it, so the father began recording their phone conversations and making copies of emails and instant messages.

In the warrant, Athey admitted to having a sexual affair with the 16-year-old rising junior.

According to CMS Superintendent Peter Gorman, Athey resigned from her job at Hopewell High Tuesday night.

"The moment we were notified, within 10 minutes, we notified the authorities. We are following our memorandum of understanding to a 'T',” said Gorman.

Gorman says Athey had a clean record, but the district does have the responsibility to make sure all students remain safe by thoroughly checking backgrounds.

"We never want a situation where an individual works for CMS, resigns from CMS, is accused of something inappropriate at CMS, and goes on to do something inappropriate somewhere else,” said Gorman. “We want to be forthcoming with all information."

Athey was released under a $4000 dollar secured bond.

CMS plans to have random background checks once the new school year starts in a few weeks.
