Medical Examiner Finds Man Alive In Morgue
EMS Workers Suspended, Investigation Underway

POSTED: 7:23 am EST January 26, 2005
UPDATED: 2:00 pm EST January 26, 2005

RALEIGH, N.C. -- A medical examiner studying a body in a morgue was shocked when he saw the man take a shallow breath.

Larry Green was removed from the morgue at the Franklin County Sheriff's Department and taken to Duke University Medical Center in Durham. He was in critical condition Tuesday night.

Medical examiner J.B. Perdue was documenting Green's injuries to certify a cause a death when he noticed Green breathing. Green had been declared dead at the accident scene after being hit by a car almost two hours earlier.

Emergency medical technicians declared the 29-year-old Louisburg man dead Monday night and put him in a body bag for transport to the morgue.

At the morgue, Perdue detected an irregular breath and called emergency medical services to take Green to the hospital.

Franklin County attorney Darnell Batton said several members of the Franklin EMS have been suspended pending an investigation.

Only if the EMS and such didn't go through the normal measures of determining death.

The title of thhis thread made Kent Brockman's voice roll through my head:

"Today, a man was brought to a hospital where he was declared dead. He was then taken to a BETTER hospital where his condition was upgraded to alive."

They should have totally kept it quiet. They should have just quietly transported him to the hostpital, and told the family that they were incorrectly notified. NOT saying that he was brought to the morgue...People need to learn how to lie.
